Established in 1853, the foundation stone of the university campus was laid on Jul 3, 1854, and then the original buildings of the university were officially opened in October 1855. Later, a law school at the university was founded at the Parkville Campus in 1857 followed by the Faculty of Engineering and School of Medicine in 1961 and 1962.
