History
In 1948, Free University of Berlin was founded. By 1949, this university registered 4,900+ students. In the late 1960s, the Free University of Berlin was one of the main areas of the German student movement of ’68 After German reunification in 1990, Free University of Berlin shifted its emphasis, increasing its research activities. In 2007, this university was selected in the excellence initiative jointly sponsored by the German federal government and government of Federal states. In 2012, during the second round of the Excellence Initiative, the university was selected again and became one of the 11 Universities in Excellence in Germany.
