History
The Technical University of Berlin has a long history and it goes back to the year 1770. Then, in 1879, the Royal Technical Academy of Berlin came into being through a merger of the Royal Trade and Building Academies. Then, in the year 1916, the Royal Mining Academic was incorporated into the Königlich Technische Hochschule.
Finally, in the year 1946, the name Technische Universität was chosen. During the same time, the institution’s education mandate was also reframed, with an universal education now as the focus. From this point, the Humanities were an important part of a technology and a research-oriented university. Hence, the first technical university in Germany with a humanistic element was established. In 1950, the Humanities Faculty was established. In 1956, the legislation made TU Berlin an independent legal entity.
