Initially, my disposition towards environmental conservation and sustainable development was limited, believing that only corporates and governments are responsible for them. The material selection was done on the basis of efficiency and cost and the final design of the building was done using Revit software.

Thereafter, the future population and respective water demand were estimated, and the distribution network was designed using EPANET 2.0 software, along with the cost estimation of the pipe network. This project acquainted me with the potential of implementing sustainable technologies in India.

 Having studied civil engineering, I am vaguely familiar with environmental engineering, but lack in-depth knowledge of the field. Therefore, it is imperative for me to develop a thorough understanding of the subject, before stepping into the professional space. The inconsiderate exploitation of our environment and resources demands an innovative approach to development and environmental remediation. Therefore, I wish to focus on the reclamation and recycling of wastewater, along with cultivating the necessary skills to plan, analyse, design, and manage environmental protection systems.

 Post Master’s, I aim to work with an environment management service company like Veolia India Environmental Services to be involved in their waste and water management projects, pertaining to various state governments and municipalities. The experiences that I will gain there will be essential in realising my ultimate goal of setting up an environmental engineering services and consulting company. I wish to devise sustainable solutions for advanced environmental engineering problems in Kerala, including, rapid contamination of river bodies and wetlands, and shortage of drinking water supply. I would also like to explore the possibilities of establishing an efficient wastewater collection system for municipal and industrial areas in Kerala and focus on energy and cost-efficient methods for their treatment to produce high-grade recycled water.

 The Master of Science in Environmental Engineering at the ___ University will allow me to gain specialised knowledge within my field of interest. The option of choosing two thematically-oriented specializations is highly intriguing than pursuing a rigid curriculum.
