History
The university though officially founded in 2009 dates its history back to 1825 when it began as a polytechnic school. It later became an institution of higher learning. In 1967 it attained the right to award regular doctoral degrees when it became a full university. 1969 saw the development of the Department of Informatics. In February 2008 the University of Karlsruhe as it was known previously was merged with the research center to form the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. After the passing of the state law in Jul 2009 the institute attained formal recognition.
