CQ University History
The university began as the Queensland Institute of Technology after persistent efforts of the local government to start a university. CQ Queensland Uni welcomed around 71 full and part-time students as part of its initial intake. The first classes took place on the top floor of the Technical College at Bolsover Street. It was renamed as the Capricornia Institute of Advanced Education in 1971. It continued to rename itself in the following years, before taking over its present-day name in 1994.
