Q:   Does McGill accept Indian students?

A: 

Yes, McGill University accepts a number of Indian students each year. McGill University is very popular among international students including Indian students. The university has more than 30% international students from aroudn the world. The minimum requirement for Indian students is as follows:

Undergraduate courses: For undergraduate admissions, Indian applicants shall be considered for admission on the basis of their class 10th board exam scores (if written), school transcripts for Grade 10, 11, and mid-year 12 or, if already written, on the class 12th Certificate. The applicants are reviewed on a minimum of 4 academic courses.

Graduate courses: The applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in a subject closely related to the one they will choose to pursue at the graduate level. The minimum CGPA required is 3.0 out of a possible 4.0 or a GPA of 3.2 out of 4.0 in the last two years of full-time studies. In some departments, a higher CGPA is needed for admission.

Q:   Does McGill offer courses in French or English medium?

A: 

McGill is an English-language university and all classes and course materials are taught in English. Students may submit written coursework and exams in English or in French. International students need to demonstrate English language proficiency to secure admission to McGill University. McGill is accepting IELTS or TOEFL score for giving admission to international students. Applicants need to have IELTS score of 6.5, TOEFL IBT score of 94, TOEFL ITP score of 587 while applying for McGill University courses.

Q:   How hard is it to get into McGill University?

Although at least 85% average score is required to be eligible for admission, the average entering grade at McGill is over 92%. Thus, it is very competitive for international students to secure admission here. McGill University offers a few fully-funded scholarships to international students. These scholarships are offered to undergraduate, master and PhD applicants. Undergraduate recipients receive up to USD 8,500 and Masters and PhD recipients get a modest amount of bursaries. McGill's Scholarships and Student Aid offers merit-based entrance scholarships to first-time university students studying a full-time undergraduate degree program.

There are two types of centrally-administered entrance scholarships:

  • One-year Scholarships, valued at CAD 3,000 (non-renewable)
  • Major Scholarships, valued between CAD 3,000 and CAD 12,000 (renewable annually up to 3 or 4 years provided criteria for renewal are met)

Tips: When I came to McGill University, things were a bit different. Montreal's mix of cultures was interesting. At first, it was a bit strange, but I liked learning about new traditions, foods and celebrations. Being part of McGill's diverse community has made my time here more colourful and exciting.
Likes (Public transportation): Getting around McGill University is pretty convenient with good public transportation. The system connects well with the rest of the city, making it easy to move around and affordable. The weather is generally nice but if you plan to work in the long run, having your own vehicle like a car, might come in handy.
Dislikes (Student Life): Life as a student at McGill University is a mix of studies and some chill time. The campus in Montreal is cool with open space to relax during break. I am not much into events because I am busy and there are not many specific student clubs. It's a laid-back vibe. But I have found my own routine.

Good student life with the McGill's MBA.
Tips: It is a pretty intensive course and it requires long hours. French language is not necessary. But it’s fun to learn from professors and guest speakers. The fall semester is the hardest with maximum number of subjects in one semester and it is pretty fast paced as well.
Likes (Student Life): Safe environment for students. Clean and quiet places around the campus are there to sit and study. Study rooms for group study in library as well as in the department building are there. Special care is given for the physical and mental well being of students. A lot of fun events are organized on almost every weekend.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Less options for Indian cuisine are available, but a great place for people who are interested in trying different cuisines. Plenty of affordable eateries near the campus are available as well, although you can find good Indian restaurants outside downtown and they are pretty cheap as well.
