History
The University of Montreal was founded as a satellite campus of the Universite Laval in 1878. It was founded with three faculties namely Theology, Law, and Medicine. Later, the University of Montreal was founded as a new branch of Universite Laval in 1878 in Quebec City. In 1887, Ecole Polytechnique became affiliated with the University of Montreal. Then, in 1915, HEC Montreal became a part of Montreal University. Between 1920-1925, a range of faculties was added to the university including Philosophy, Literature, Sciences, Veterinary Medicine, Dental Surgery, and Social Sciences. The location of the university was changed from Quartier Latin to Mount Royal in 1942. By the year 2002, the university has been working on its largest project since the late 1950s and had developed five new buildings.
