Q:   How to get a room to live on campus of the University of Northern British Columbia?
A: 

The University of Northern British Columbia has implemented an online Housing application and monitoing process. It allows international students to apply for accommodation at UNBC online through the comfort of their home. However, before applying for an accommodation at UNBC, international students must meet the below given conditions. 

  • You must be at least 17 years old by the end of your first semester living in UNBC Housing
  • To be eligible for Housing you must be registered in a minimum of 1 UNBC course for each semester you live in Residence
  • All students under the age of 19 must have a parent or guardian sign the Residence Contract
  • The Residence Room Deposit (CAD 275/INR 16,794) and the non-refundable Application Fee (CAD 26.50/INR 1,618) is required to complete your application
  • Only complete, paid, and submitted applications will be processed
  • After you submit your application the university will send you a Housing Offer. You must log back into the portal and accept your Housing Offer to secure your place in Residence
  • All UNBC buildings are non-smoking (including Vaporizers, E-Cigarettes, and Cannabis)

Q:   What are the eligibility requirements for international students seeking admission to University of Northern British Columbia?
A: 

Students who complete their studies at a relevant high school and/or recognized post-secondary institution will be considered for admission. International applicants must be in good standing and demonstrate an acceptable level of proficiency in English. UNBC has country-specific academic requirements, thus, for Indian aspirants the requirements are as follows:

Undergraduate Admission

Students must have Class 12 or Standard XII Board Examination results issued by examination boards, such as ISC, GCSE, AISSCE, etc. For general entry, students should have a minimum average grade of 50% or higher in English Class 12, three academic subjects, and an elective. Apart from this, students who have a three-year diploma issued by a state board of education will also be accepted. A minimum average grade of 50% or higher is required for general entry.


Additionally, any one of these English proficiency test score is required:

English requirements can also be fulfilled if the student has:

  • A final grade of 75% (B) or better in a university transferable English course, or
  • Completed two full years of full-time degree level studies or equivalent at a recognized institution where English is the language of instruction.

Graduate Admissions

Indian graduate applicants should possess any of these academic qualifications from a university or institution accredited by India's National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with a grade of A or better. GRE or GMAT may be required as per course requirements.

The University of Northern British Columbia sets rigorous English Proficiency requirements to ensure academic excellence and effective communication to ensure academic excellence for both UG and PG courses. UG applicants must have a minimum IELTS score of 6.5, a TOEFL iBT score of 90 or higher, with a writing sub score of 20 or more. Students can also submit a Duolingo English Test score of 105 or above. These requirements are also applicable to engineering courses.
