History
The roots of Cardiff Met University trace back to 1865 when the School of Arts opened. The institution went through many name changes over the years. In 1950, Cardiff Teacher Training College opened at Health Park. Home to Health Sciences, Design, and Engineering students, Llandaff Technical College opened in 1954. Then, in 1962, the college moved to Cyncoed. In 1990, the name changed to Cardiff Institute of Higher Education. In 1996, it was granted university college status within the University of Wales and named the University of Wales Institute, Cardiff (UWIC). In 2011, UWIC formally ended its association with the University of Wales and was renamed Cardiff Metropolitan University.
