Lovely and fulfilling experience.
Tips: The weather has been the biggest change for me here and there is a lot of stuff that you will have to buy locally rather than from back home such as jackets, shoes, adapters, Instant Pot and more. Sometimes you can get discounted stuff at garage sales or from seniors who are moving out and wish to get rid of their stuff such as kitchenware or furniture. Academically, the university is pretty good and offers many courses and chances to experiment.

Strong academics and a vast college.
Tips: My programme at Boston University is quite vigorous and heavy and some of the assignments have given me sleepless nights. Professors here really emphasise research and clarity and a lot of your projects will also require the same energy. Jobs are not really easy to get any longer because of all the changes and BU is an expensive school so consider all your options.

Tips: The transition from life back home and here is quite prevalent. But I had an easy time adapting as the city is very student-friendly and welcoming, and the university takes measures to help you out with administrative stuff once you arrive. No part-time jobs off campus, and for on-campus opportunities, there are limited spots. Public transport is free, and my experience has been quite great so far.

Tips: Boston was a city that instantly drew me in. The people are friendly, and the city is filled with many universities and students; making it a great college town basically. Tips: The classes are intense and big on projects so if you are someone who likes that sort of setting you'll be set. Some people have a hard time adjusting her but there's support available especially mentally so don't be hesitant if you ever feel the need. My favorite ritual has been weekend potlucks with my friends and taking a day in exploring a new place. Keep yourself engaged and you'll have a good time. Great experiences

Tips: There is a slight cultural shift at the beginning but it doesn't take too long to feel welcome and not out of place. The professors are very involved and happy to help. Tips: I have seen changes in my mentality, in my problem-solving abilities and in the way I perceive things, which I can credit to the time I have spent here so far. It is a very student-friendly and accommodating city, and the campus is beyond extensive. Good classmates, and even though finding a job here is among the most difficult tasks yet, there have been situations where the hardworking has paid off. Rent is expensive, so you can cut costs by using public transport or cooking for yourself. The optional reading is actually compulsory, and showing energy in class is really appreciated.

Tips: I didn't expect the course loads to be as intense as they have been, but then again, if I'm studying psychology, it's important to be thorough. That is something that the professors at Boston University really do emphasise. Moreover, I feel like the program has been a good balance of theory and practical experience, which has really enhanced my learning. I think this is a great place to study.
Likes (Safety): Boston is filled with universities and people, so there is plenty of police force both in and around campus to ensure maximum safety. In fact, the crime rate is also lower than in other American cities, and people watch out for one another here as well.

Tips: The best thing about Boston is how student-friendly the city is and how accommodating it is to diversity. There are a number of prominent universities in and around the city, and there’s a tram service throughout the city that’s practically free for students. I do wish the course loads were less intense at times, though. There have been weeks when I barely had time to do anything aside from my academics.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Honestly, if you require a sponsorship to work in the United States, you will not be able to secure a role here very easily. This has been the case for almost all students throughout the country, to the point that some colleges are simply not taking in any more international students.

The university is decent but very expensive.
Tips: Before joining BU, know that it's a large, vibrant urban campus with strong academics and lots of opportunities, but also a fast-paced environment where you need to be proactive. Transitioning involved getting used to the city, the academic rigour, and a more independent lifestyle; the cultural shift wasn't drastic, but adjusting to different social norms and a diverse student body took some time. I did receive a merit-based scholarship through my application, which significantly helped with tuition costs, though the exact amount varies. Overall, I'm very satisfied with BU's academics, the diverse courses offered, and studying in Boston, a city with so much history and student life.
Likes (Safety): BU and the surrounding areas generally feel quite safe, especially with the presence of campus police and well-lit areas. However like any city you need to be aware of your surroundings, especially at night. BU offers the Scarlet SafeWalk programme for escorts at night, emergency blue light call boxes across campus and a comprehensive BU Alert system for timely notifications. There are also security personnel in dorms and educational programs on safety awareness.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Permanent immigration is something some international students consider but it's not the primary focus for most during their studies. It depends a lot on individual career paths and opportunities after graduation. Permanent settlement isn't my primary focus right now as a student. My chances would depend on future job prospects and visa options after graduation which are uncertain. While the US has its attractions, permanent immigration is a significant decision that involves long-term goals and family, so it's not a definite "yes" at this stage.

Tips: The college and where it is located provides the perfect blend of history and modernity as Boston is a very historic city while being extremely developed as well. People in and out of college are friendly, and it won't take very long to adjust here. Weather is unpredictable and a little extreme.
Likes (Indian Food): In this college town, there are tons of Indian restaurants and grocery stores, so food isn’t an issue. I think you should cook for yourself to cut back on expenses, as it might get pricey to support yourself here. There are a lot of different options available, and I think the quality is quite good.

Tips: I like the hands-on and more practical form of learning here, where students are encouraged to think critically and examine every problem from multiple angles. I think this trains you well and has an impact in the long run. I did not avail myself of any scholarships, but a lot of my friends have received some form of financial aid. I would love to settle here if I ever got the opportunity. Initially, I'd planned on coming here to work for a few years, but the setting's become very unpredictable, and my chances of doing so are a lot lower. Everyone is looking for a job, but sponsorship makes things more complicated. I would say I’m fairly satisfied with Boston University so far.

Great program if you can afford it without spending all your life savings.
Tips: Really good Architecture programme with two semesters abroad. I studied in London and Florence. It can get expensive. I did receive scholarships of up to 5000 per semester, barely anything. Also got 4000 to support an internship in NYC, which I used for accommodation costs. Transitioning was quite hard the first year - lots of peer pressure to participate in party culture. Lots of clubs and student run organisations, which are great. Great facilities - gym, mental wellbeing, transportation around campus, etc. Architecture professors are very involved and helpful.
Likes (Indian Food): South Indian restaurant in downtown - great food, but a bit far from campus. Good for ordering. Two Indian restaurants on campus, which is not bad. In and around campus (walking distance) has decent options - 7-8 good restaurants and lots of Asian food. Some fast food options and CVS on campus. For groceries, you will require a car/bus ride. I would rather spend the money on Instacart/Uber seats or make friends with a person who owns a car.
Dislikes (Value for money): Too expensive for international students since financial aid is not provided and scholarships are limited through the university for international students. Tuition is too expensive. If your family makes twice the total amount of attending, it is worth it. If you don't have a plan to pay for a 5-year B.Arch programme, consider a cheaper option with similar faculty/values.

Tips: Students should know that Syracuse has a strong academic environment, but winters are harsh, so come prepared. Transitioning here involved adapting to the could, independent living, and a more open classroom culture. I received a merit-based scholarship during admission, which covered part of my tuition.
Likes (Part time work): On-campus jobs are fairly available, especially in dining, libraries, and tech support. Off-campus options are limited due to visa rules. Balancing part-time work with studies is manageable with good time management. Average pay ranges from $12 to $15 per hour, which helps with daily expenses.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are limited authentic Indian food options near campus. There are a few Indian restaurants mostly mid range in price but the variety is limited. I prefer cooking for myself as it's more affordable and reminds me of home where I have missed a lot of home food.

The part-time job situation is limited, and there's a scarcity of jobs in the area and throughout.
Tips: Some of the most popular and sought-after scholarships are sports scholarships, as Syracuse is very popular for its competitive sports and tournaments. Compared to other colleges in New York, this university is located in an ideal location. The campus also has some of the best infrastructure I have seen. The part-time job situation is limited, and there's a scarcity of jobs in the area and throughout. On-campus options are also limited, and with your academic commitments, especially in competitive programs, it becomes more challenging to get an ideal side hustle.

The university is good but slightly overrated.
Tips: Honesty, if you are keen on studying in the States, you should try for a better college, and you should only seriously consider going if you have some form of scholarship or backup, because it just won't be worth it otherwise. I have learnt a lot here, but I would not make the same decisions if I had another chance. But, it might suit some people, so you should keep an open mind, be a part of campus initiatives and focus on landing a job after graduation.

Tips: Studying here has provided me with an enriched experience of what it takes to be in a conventional American setting. The campus is big on fraternities and sororities, and there are better eating options outside of campus as compared to what they provide in the meal plans. The school offers so many student clubs and groups that it can be intimidating. There's something for everyone here, though, and everyone has been really welcoming, so you won't feel like you're missing out on anything if you don't join. It's a really diverse university, so you won't be feeling out of place for too long. There are many activities held on campus, try to participate in them and build some connections.

Tips: So far, the university has been great. I have transitioned well after coming here. America is a very diverse, liberal, and accepting country, with plenty to do both on and off campus. There is zero tolerance for racism or any form of homophobia, which promotes a more inclusive campus structure, and the classes are well planned, emphasising both theoretical as well as practical learning. Take advantage of networking opportunities and business events to elevate your career.

A supportive and opportunity-rich environment for growth.
Tips: Students should know that Syracuse University offers strong academic resources, great faculty and lots of opportunities, but you have to take initiative to benefit from them. Be prepared for cold winters and a different classroom style, which is more interactive, and participation often counts towards grades. The transition had its ups and downs. It's a growth experience. I received a 30% tuition scholarship, which was mentioned in my I-20. I didn't have to apply separately- it was based on my academic profile and work experience during the admission process. Overall, I'm quite satisfied. The course content is aligned with industry needs, and the professors are approachable. Syracuse is a peaceful place to focus on studies, and the U. S. in general offers a lot of exposure and opportunities in teaching.
Likes (Internships): There is a good amount of guidance available for finding and applying to internships at Syracuse University. The Career Services team and the Handshake platform are very helpful. Most of the internships I've come across are highly relevant to my field of study in Computer Science. There are opportunities in software development, data analysis.
Dislikes (Indian Food): While there are a few Indian restaurants in Syracuse, the variety and authenticity don't fully match what I'm used to back home in Mumbai. The flavours are often adjusted to suit American palates, and some regional dishes, especially street food or Maharashtra cuisine, are hard to find. I prefer cooking for myself most of the time. It's more economical and lets me make the kind of Indian food I miss from home.
