Dalhousie University: A supportive, inclusive environment for academic and personal growth.
Tips: Students joining Dalhousie University should know it provides strong academic support, career services, and a diverse student community, though the workload can be intense. I adjusted well, experiencing a cultural shift towards independent living and self-advocacy. I haven't received a scholarship, but some are available. Overall, I'm satisfied with Dalhousie, my programme, and Canada's inclusive environment, which supports both learning and practical experience.
Likes (Safety): Dalhousie provides strong campus security and resources like the DalSafe app, which offers emergency contacts, incident reporting, and personal safety tools. Personally, Halifax also has a visible police presence, particularly in student areas, and reliable public transit that makes travelling around the city feel safe.
Dislikes (Part time work): I rated part-time work as 3 because, while there are some on-campus job opportunities at Dalhousie, competition is high, making them limited. These roles include positions in libraries, labs, and student services. Off-campus, Halifax offers options in retail, food service, and events, but students often need to look early and be proactive. Balancing part-time work with academics can be challenging, especially during busy semesters, so good time management is key. The average payout for the part-time work is between $15.20 - 16.20 per hour.

Dalhousie University is good but it still has a lot of potential to be better.
Tips: Transitioning here is quite easy and everything is well structured. Also, there is a large base of Indian students here which makes everything easier. I didn't secure any scholarship. I am enjoying my time at my university. I am satisfied with my decision to do my masters here.
Likes (Internships): Most of the seniors got their internships but still, some were not able to secure an internship position. I will not say there are a plethora of opportunities here nor are there no opportunities. We have opportunities but for them, competition is really high.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are not many vegetarian options available. If you are comfortable with non-vegetarian options then it's fine. I prefer to cook at home because it is both healthy and affordable. Eating outside is quite expensive here, a simple meal will cost more than 40 Dollars.

Awesome Dalhousie Journey
Tips: There are no cultural shifts after coming here. Also, it depends on your academics to avail scholarships as you should be attaining top grades in all courses to avail them. And I am greatly satisfied with the university and country except for the harsh winter climates from December to March-April.
Likes (Public transportation): Transportation is awesome as public transportation is free when you are a student and we can have great accessibility around downtown. All parts of the city are well connected with metro buses including the airport. Also, the university has great accessibility to the downtown and there will be frequent buses and a number of stops to avail public transportation.
Dislikes (Part time work): On campus Part time jobs are usually hard to get. Off campus part time jobs are relatively easy to find. MACS course is a bit exhaustive course, so you have to get your basics ready before you join the course as you have to find the right balance between part time and course exams and assignments.
The average pay at the moment would be 14-15 CAD.

University is one of the best in Canada
Tips: The education is world class and cutting edge. Very different from India and required a lot of self-studying and hard work. Be ready to put in a lot of hours and also discipline will go a long way. Make sure to learn skills rather than getting grades, it will help you a lot in the long run.
Likes (Public transportation): Cheap and safe, there is no metro or trains only transportation available are buses but it’s extensive. The buses run till late and cover most of the city. The service is really good and the buses are free for students as you pay for them in your fees.
Dislikes (Value for money): The course provides a lot of opportunities and demand is high for IT professionals in Halifax. Most of students get a job within 6 months depending on the intensity of the job search, skills and passion for the industry but the starting pay is good as compared to money spent on education.

Tough academics, average lifestyle and very expensive tuition fee
Tips: Make sure what is the tuition fees and what you require to complete the program. No scholarships for international students are given. The college has good campus area, its within city and accessible. Not a lot of on campus jobs. Some courses have 5 days classes so it can be difficult for part time work.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Not all professors are that great. Some have extensive knowledge and some do not. Subjects are not regularly taught by the same professors. Professors try different teaching approaches which sometimes create confusion.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Groceries are not available everywhere and even if they are, its very costly. Restaurants are costly for students and food is not authentic. Tiffin services are available now but still costly for students. There are some local grocery stores which imports some food from country of origin but they are costly too when compared with the minimum wage given here.

Please conduct research before selecting any colleges or universities.
Tips: I did not like the atmosphere of the college at all, the people around me and also the faculty. I mean it is not worth it when we talk about tuition feels we paid for the education. The course was good but if you do not find right faculty with the proper knowledge of the area, eventually you dissatisfied with the course.
Likes (Public transportation): Most of the times I traveled via public transportation which was very accessible from my home to the college. The available mode of public transportation is buses connecting the city and subways. It is affordable and convenient, it costs around 120$ CAD per month.
Dislikes (Quality of faculty): The only reason to rate 3 on quality of faculty is sometimes they do not have enough knowledge to teach and guide us. Still, they are giving us lectures on that particular subject. There was no practical knowledge regarding subjects or any field of area.

Small college and average facilities.
Tips: This is a very small college and around here there are only and only Indians. Everywhere I go wherever I see I can only see Indians so feels like a mini Punjab college. If you just want to come to Canada for the sake of coming here and there is no other college that is giving an offer then come here otherwise the degree will not make any difference. Part time jobs are available and a student can take care of his/her needs but don't miss out on the big picture.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Many students from India are coming to Canada and everyone wants a job and a PR. Earlier there were many jobs but now not that much. Some countries like Norway, Netherlands and other European nations are better options now. As much as I have heard it is good to have some corporate connections now in Canada which will help you with getting the job.

Good college with a small campus
Tips: Currently Canadian job market is not very forthcoming keep a note of that. While studying in the university take part in other extra-curricular activities so that you'll have other skills that will give you leverage over others. In culture, Canada is good and there are no difficulties as such encountered by students. Language is not something to worry about neither is culture. This college is good but the campus is a bit small. If you have other options look out for them too. However academically Salt is also good.
Likes (Indian Food): You will find the best butter chicken. If you are from Punjab or North India food lovers nothing will be missed here. Prices are also fair and dining out here is good as compared to other countries where you have limited food options from India. I have had a chance to dine with people from India here in their houses and I have enjoyed it the most.
Dislikes (Safety): Canada if taken as a whole is very safe particularly for Indians. It is home away from home there are people at every nook to help you out and there is no security issue here. So if you are coming here at least don't worry about this. The campus is also very friendly.

Average experience so far
Tips: It was an easy shift as Canada is culturally diverse. There were no scholarships available at that time for this college. The faculty is good but we are disappointed with the infrastructure. There are no on campus jobs available. Part time jobs are hard to get these days due to recession.

The course is value for money.
Tips: Students should be well aware of their courses taken and the relevance of those courses to the industry they aspire to leap into. Most of the time students take up a course and are not aware of the curriculum and subject matter, don’t be one of those students. Do a thorough background check of the curriculum yourself before getting admitted to take up a particular course. It’s good around here in Brampton, the college is also good while considering the quality of faculty and infrastructure with respect to the fees paid. So, go for it mostly if you’re planning to work and live here.

Having a good experience
Tips: This transition has made me more confident. Although it depends from person to person. But so far my experience has been really good. The campus I selected is really small which was a disappointment but the faculty is really good. They are always available to guide us. They have provided us with experts to help us with language and even to improve our resumes as per Canadian standards. Canada is a multicultural country and people here respect others' cultures and ethnicity. It shares a border with states, so there are more opportunities. Also, there is a job shortage these days in Canada. So, it might be a little hard for students who are planning to come to Canada as the number of immigrants has increased massively and there are not many job opportunities available.
Likes (Indian Food): Canada is a multicultural country, especially the GTA cities are known for their variety of food options. It is very comforting as you can find all kinds of Indian food here. As I live in Brampton, I have many places that serve Indian cuisine. For student life, I believe it is a bit expensive to spend on restaurants. I prefer to cook myself as it's a healthier and budget-friendly option.
Dislikes (Internships): Faculty is always there to guide us and there are on-campus jobs available. There are internships available relevant to the field of studies but honestly, just receiving the degree is not enough here. Students must do extra courses and get certificates in specified fields to grab better jobs and internships.
