A Dynamic Academic Journey at Ruhr-University Bochum.
Tips: Moving to Bochum for uni is honestly just as much of a shock to your system outside the classroom as it is inside. People around here don't do fake politeness—they expect you to be exactly on time, tell it straight to your face, and just leave you to handle your own business. German university life expects you to be completely independent. While RUB has decent support offices, nobody is going to spoon-feed you. You have to handle your own bureaucratic paperwork, organize your own class schedules, and keep track of your deadlines with zero reminders.
Also, do yourself a massive favor and learn some basic German before arriving. Even if your master's program is entirely in English, navigating daily life outside the classroom will be an absolute nightmare without it. The communication style here is incredibly blunt—it's not necessarily mean, it's just very honest, which takes some getting used to. And you definitely have to get used to 'Sunday silence,' where literally every grocery store and shop completely shuts down and the city goes dead for the day.
When it comes to funding, I didn't actually get a scholarship myself. But if you need financial help, plenty of internationals apply for DAAD grants or RUB’s internal scholarship programs. Just know they look heavily at top-tier grades and whether you actually do volunteer work or social stuff on the side. Honestly, looking back, I'm really glad I made the move. The courses are tough but super practical, the concrete campus always has something happening, and living out here in Germany forces you to grow up and see the world in a completely different way.
Likes (Quality of faculty): I gave the faculty a full 5 stars because the professors here are brilliant and actually give a damn about whether you succeed or not. Unlike massive, faceless universities where you never see your lecturers, the professors in my department are super down-to-earth and easy to talk to. They keep their office doors open, and you can literally just walk in to debate course material, ask confusing questions, or get real-world career advice without feeling like you're wasting their time.
What really stands out about studying at RUB is how heavily they push applied learning. They don't just force you to memorize textbooks; the curriculum is packed with practical modules where you get your hands dirty on actual, real-world projects. As an international student, this is a massive lifesaver because it takes those dense, abstract theories and actually shows you how they work in the industry, which is exactly what you need to land a job later. Plus, the faculty is incredibly diverse. You’re learning from people from all over the world with completely different professional backgrounds, which completely changes the dynamic in the lecture halls and makes classroom discussions ten times more interesting.
Dislikes (Indian Food): I gave the Indian food situation a low rating because finding a genuine taste of home inside Bochum is honestly a massive headache. While the city has plenty of international spots, the complete lack of authentic Indian restaurants or proper South Asian grocery stores is a huge letdown. Honestly, having to drag myself all the way to Dortmund on the train just to get basic spices and lentils from an Asian market is an absolute pain, especially when I just want a proper meal after classes. It turns a simple grocery run into a whole afternoon trip, which seriously limits what I can cook on a busy weekday.
Right around campus and the Uni-Center, your daily options are basically just German bakeries, Turkish döner shops, and standard Italian pizza places. They aren't terrible—a quick bite will usually run you anywhere from 8 to 15 Euros, so it’s decent for a mid-range student budget. But eating döner and fries gets old fast. Because there aren't any specialized markets nearby, I’ve pretty much given up on eating out and choose to cook almost everything at home. Making my own meals is the only way I can actually get the flavor and heat I want without blowing through my monthly budget on overpriced, westernized restaurant food.

A place with lot of scope to learn.
Tips: - Germans are very nice people, and they are open to help students. But it's good if we learn German to speak with them. - I got an international scholarship for 6 months during my second semester from the university. I applied online. I submitted a few documents like a recommendation letter from a professor, a bank statement, transcripts, a motivation letter, and others. - I am completely satisfied with the course and university. The course is well recommended for students who did mechanical or civil in their bachelor's. The subjects are very well designed with tools and projects for industrial applications.
Likes (Value for money): For my course, there is no tuition fee. Students have to pay 360 eur per semester, which is the contribution fee; it includes the semester ticket (Deutschland ticket for travel), the social contribution fee, and all. I work at a university and other off-campus jobs to support myself financially (for room rent, food, and all).
Dislikes (Part time work): You can find a ton of job opportunities both on and off campus. Working as a student or research assistant for a professor is a massive plus—it gives you actual, hands-on experience in your field and puts extra cash in your pocket to help cover expenses. Students are allowed to work for 20 hours/week, and it is definitely manageable along with studies. Usually the minimum pay in Germany is around 14 EUR/hour. It slightly varies with the role and the place of work.

Tips: A cultural shift you might experience is that people here are very relaxed compared to the hypercompetitive environment in India. A Deutschlandstipendium worth 300 euros every month is possible for master's students, and you can get it before joining. Check the deadline for applying. Very satisfied with the course, university, and country.
Likes (Value for money): There is no tuition fee, since it is a public university in Germany. The course is one of its kind, because there are hardly any programs that focus on providing a holistic curriculum focusing on material modeling in all length scales. Opportunities for research are plentiful, and getting Ph.D. positions after a master's here is relatively easier. The coursework is also flexible and gives you the opportunity to choose what you want to specialize in.
Dislikes (Indian Food): I prefer cooking, but the university also has a vegan mensa (canteen) with subsidized food for students, which sometimes has Asian/Indian-style food. Otherwise, there are a handful of Indian restaurants in Bochum that serve decent food. There are also vegan burrito shops accessible by tram.

Best Course but with limited Job Oppurtunites
Tips: There is great work-life balance in Germany. This is the biggest cultural shift. I got a scholarship from my state called NTR Videshi Vidya. I got it by submitting my admission letter, GRE, and TOEFL scores. They gave me 10 lakhs. I am fully satisfied with the university, course, and country.
Likes (Value for money): There are literally no feelings for the education apart from the semester feelings. You need to only pay semester fees, which were around 330 euros at my time. So it's a great value for money. Especially since the courses are well taught. The only problem is the job market.
Dislikes (Internships): Few internships and heavy competition for CFD and FEM-related jobs. The field is saturated. Internships are not easy, and language matters a lot. Get a good grip on the German language before you come here. With language, internships are a little bit easier to get.

Tips: If you're moving out here to study at RUB you need to brace yourself for some serious culture shock, especially when it comes to the academic side of things. The German university system is a completely different beast—the teaching style is way more independent, and your interactions with professors and faculty are far more formal and direct than what you might be used to back home.
Financially, things got a lot easier for me because I managed to secure a scholarship through the RESOLV cluster, which was a massive lifesaver for handling my expenses. Honestly, I’m incredibly satisfied with my choice to come to Bochum. The city itself is a fantastic, highly underrated place to live as an international student—it’s got a great student vibe, the cost of living won't completely break the bank, and the campus community makes it easy to find your feet.

Life in Ruhr University Bochum
Tips: There is no major cultural shift I have experienced here since there are already so many Indians present. However, we should get adapted to the quiet lifestyle that goes in an orderly manner and also to the weather. Applying for scholarships is very much recommended. Looking out for scholarship deadlines within the university portals and the famous DAAD portals is really helpful. Overall the experience is wholesome.
Likes (Quality of faculty): Faculty in the department of stem cell biology are very accessible and reliable. They help students to get internships or projects out of the university. They also help in providing lab rotation within the department. Most of the teaching faculty are Germans; however, we have numerous guest lecturers who come from university clinics and other reputed universities. There are some Indian faculty as well. Teaching is mostly offline with PowerPoint slides, and sometimes it's online. Practical experience is also really good.
Dislikes (Internships): There are student bodies and administrative staff continuously conducting meetings and seminars to bring awareness about the internships and job opportunities available. They help in preparing students for the job after studies. However, there are not the same number of opportunities for all disciplines.

Best place to study, when your ready to put extra efforts.
Tips: Students should learn the basics of whatever department they are going to join and dedication while studying. Start preparing German once you start your academics. Make sure you reach out to faculty when you have doubts, and if possible, do group study while preparing for exams. Try to use sports facilities available in the college.
Likes (Student Life): Very friendly people, easily accessible, and reasonable rent for accommodation. And also food is affordable. Events organized by students often give information about jobs and other facilities available in the university. You can use the sports facilities available on campus at a reasonable rate.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Because German language skills need to be at least a B2 level. The course is in English and students don't need german skills while joining but after completion you need to prove your German skills to get a internship, job, etc. Getting a job is on your own, so keep applying for every company that actually suits your profile; you will definitely get a job.

Academically strong, diverse and supportive place to study in Germany.
Tips: Students should know that transitioning from the Indian to the German education system takes about one semester as studies here are more self driven and research focused. I did not receive a scholarship but strong performers often get one from the second year onward. I am satisfied with the university's diverse open environment and with my course which is research oriented and requires students to find internships independently. Germany is peaceful, structured and ideal for those who don't mind could weather and clear bureaucratic processes.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The value for money at Ruhr University Bochum is exceptional. There is no tuition fee and the semester contribution of around 50 includes the Deutschlandticket giving free public transport across Germany. The university offers high-quality teaching, strong research infrastructure and excellent facilities. For the low cost paid each semester, the academic and practical benefits are completely justified.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Part-time work is quite difficult in the beginning. Without good German skills, it is hard to find jobs, so learning German early preferably from the Goethe Institute is important. During the first 6 months after arrival, most time goes into registration, paperwork, and setting down, so there is almost no scope for part-time work. On-campus HiWi jobs usually open only after first-semester results, and even then the competition is very high. Off-campus jobs are available mainly if you speak fluent German. As an alternative, many students work full-time at Amazon during the end-of-year speak season to manage expenses. Average payouts vary but generally range from minimum wage upwards depending on the job.

Tips: The university provides excellent research facilities and welcoming international environment. Having a senior from my previous master's college here helped me adjust smoothly. The transition was quite comfortable, though in Germany, there are cultural and language differences, but you will enjoy learning. I am a DAAD scholarship holder. It covers my living expenses, health insurance. I had to clear an interview to get this.
Likes (Student Life): I mostly spent my day till 6 pm in the chemical labs. But in between, I spend my day attending lectures. Lunch at mensa and discussion with friends. The campus hosts various events such as research talks, sports activities. I am currently enrolled in badminton and swimming. There are various cultural and sports groups. Particularly, we have a research cluster where 4 universities are doing collaborative research on solvation Science.
Dislikes (Indian Food): I prefer to cook my own meals because it's healthier and much more affordable. But there are a lot of options available for vegetarian and non-vegetarian people to eat in mensa (a dining hall inside the university). Pricing ranges from 4-8 euros per meal. But there are some good Indian and Asian restaurants in and around Bochum.

This university is the right place for someone who really wants to learn.
Tips: This university is the right place for someone who really wants to learn. The professors are very friendly, and you can always approach them with doubts. Be ready to spend quality time studying and study every day; do not push it to the last day before exams. You should understand that only you are responsible for yourself and be proactive. I found my course very challenging, but in the end, it was totally worth the time, effort and money. I didn't avail any scholarships, but I know people who did. So it is possible to get scholarships. You need to make sure that you have good grades. One thing I would suggest to all students coming to Germany is to learn the language.
Likes (Indian Food): I would suggest all students cook for themselves as it is cheaper. I prefer cooking food myself. There are many Indian restaurants and you easily get Indian food. You also have many other restaurants here, Italian, Greek, Turkish etc. Eating outside is a bit expensive, but occasionally it's okay to eat out.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): If you want to apply for permanent immigration, you have to study well, get a job in your field, and work for 3 years before you can apply. I would also advise you to learn the language. It is very helpful and can make the transition to life in Germany more comfortable. I think that immigrating here is a good idea.

Tips: On the offer letter everything is mentioned regarding the fee structure. Also, we have a convocation before classes that is for one week. Our student ID has been sent. Before that, they also told us to download the university app and log in with that student ID that is called MISIS no. along with the password also.
Likes (Safety): Dubai is the best and well-known for its safety in every way. Their world also has facilities, and comfort is well known in the world. UAE LEADERS have this vision to create the safest country among all, and they are so good AT IT. Because of law and strict order, people are afraid, and they follow it also.
Dislikes (Part time work): I rated 3 out of 5 for part-time work because in my experience, Dubai doesn't have a strong part-time work culture for students; there are opportunities but not as in countries like the UK, Australia, Europe, etc. On-campus jobs are quite limited and usually require tasks for UAE experience of at least 1 year.

I am so happy to be the part of MDX Dubai. All the faculties are very friendly and approachable.
Tips: If you're looking at Middlesex Dubai, you need to go in with your eyes wide open about how the system works here. First off, forget the idea of traditional university placements where companies just hand you a job on a silver platter before graduation. MDX has great career fairs and solid networking events, but you have to be incredibly aggressive about hunting down internships on your own if you want to stand a chance in Dubai's brutal corporate market.
On the plus side, they are pretty generous with academic and international grants, so make sure you apply early to lock down a scholarship before funding dries up. The actual classes and overall program vibe are amazing, but your daily stress is going to come down to logistics. The campus is in Knowledge Park, but most student housing is miles away in places like Al Ruwayyah or Academic City. The university does provide free shuttle buses, but if you miss one, you're stuck relying on the Metro and the student Blue Nol card to get around. Figure out your housing and transport budget before you pay your deposit, because living expenses out here can catch you completely off guard.

Likes (Student Life): Most of my day is basically just a mix of running to classes, hanging out, and catching up with friends from all over the place. The uni constantly puts on random stuff like cultural nights and sports events, and I always try to show up if I’m free. Plus, there are a ton of student clubs you can join. It makes it super easy to meet people and actually gives you a life outside of your degree.
Dislikes (Part time work): MDX offers a lot of on-campus job opportunities. They have student vacancy portals where they post jobs regularly, and you can apply for the jobs from there. The workload is generally manageable alongside studies if you plan your time well. I don't currently have any idea about the payout of part-time work.

Tips: Students should know that the university offers a diverse and multicultural environment with students from different countries. My transition was smooth since Dubai is a multicultural city; adapting was not very difficult. Yes, I did get a scholarship on the basis of previous grades. I am highly satisfied with the course, city, and overall UAE.
Likes (Safety): I rated 5 stars because of the safety for both the campus and the city. Apart from campus security, there are CCTV cameras, controlled access to university facilities, emergency support services, well-maintained infrastructure, etc. My experience in Dubai is very positive. The city is cleaned, well-maintained, has infrastructure, etc.
Dislikes (Internships): I rated it 4 stars because there is a good amount of guidance available for internships; the university supports them through career services, job portals, and workshops. Tips: MDX Dubai is super easy to fit into. The crowd is insanely diverse, so you won’t face a major culture shock, and they give decent scholarship discounts if your high school grades are good.
But real talk—don’t just sit in class expecting a job to fall into your lap. The campus is right in Dubai Knowledge Park surrounded by huge corporate hubs but the competition is crazy. You have to hunt for internships, hit up uni events and join clubs to build a network that actually goes anywhere. Honestly though I’m glad I came here. The professors are great and really supportive, but they aren't going to hand you everything on a silver platter—you genuinely have to go out of your way to find the cool projects and opportunities. On top of that, just figuring out how the campus vibe works and actually talking to people makes a world of difference when you're trying to build a network.
Likes (Part time work): As it provides strong support for placements and career opportunities. There are regular placement drives, internship opportunities, and skill development programs that help students become job ready. The presence of reputed companies visiting the campus is really appreciated.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Getting your permanent residency here is definitely doable since the pathways are there, but the whole process is a massive waiting game and insanely competitive. Even though the routes are pretty straightforward on paper—like going the skilled worker route or securing a long-term job—you still have to deal with a ton of moving parts, constantly changing visa rules, and strict job requirements.

Amazing education quality at Middlesex University.
Tips: The quality of education is amazing but one thing students should know is the degree is accredited by KHDA. so if you are planning to continue to study in UAE, you can only study in a KHDA accredited university. However, it's a very friendly place and can make connections with people of different backgrounds. The location is also very homely and comforting. The teachers are highly reputed. They have so many clubs and a wide range of activities for the student to engage in.
Likes (Safety): First of all, UAE has a very cost-effective public transport. Travelling by bus and metro is very safe and easy to use. They also have a separate carriage for women and children in metro. Student discounts are provided by RTA and can be applied to the University you go to. The University is located in the core place around a lot of big companies and there are other universities located nearby. It has a very friendly vibe and the professors are always ready to give a helping hand. The place is very diverse so you rarely face any social problem. It is also licensed by KHDA in UAE which is responsible for quality education.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): I have heard the careers department is of immense help before and after you graduate. I have not yet checked it by myself, but the services provided by Middlesex are commendable. But we do have a wide range of opportunities provided to us with employability during our studies.

Shiksha helped me a lot and made it very easier for me to enroll to this college.
Tips: The course for the master's is very easy and good at Middlesex; if you want academic focus, then Wollongong and Heriot-Watt might be better, but for sports and culture, MDX is the one. Scholarships can be provided to you based on your past academic results and competitive exams.
Likes (Student Life): I gave student life a high rating because the energy around Middlesex Dubai is honestly unmatched. Between the sports clubs always competing and the academic setup being so engaging, there’s a really exciting vibe on campus. The student culture is incredibly lively, so you never feel like you're just showing up to class and heading straight home.
On top of that, the environment is super welcoming, and the careers team is heavily involved from day one. If you're looking to grab a part-time job or lock in a solid internship while you study, they actually do the heavy lifting to connect you with companies around the city. It just makes the whole university experience feel a lot more practical and worth it.
Dislikes (Value for money): The campus vibe at Middlesex Dubai is honestly incredible, especially being right in the middle of Knowledge Park. The faculty members are super approachable and actually go out of their way to help you when you're struggling with modules. There’s a really high-energy student culture here so coming to campus never feels like a drag. Plus, the whole DKP food court area and the surrounding spots give you plenty of places to hang out between lectures, which keeps the atmosphere feeling really lively. When it comes to life after graduation, their careers team is heavily involved in setting you up with internships and sorting out post-study work opportunities, which takes a massive weight off your shoulders if you're trying to launch a career in Dubai.
