Lots of things to do here.
Tips: Syracuse has always held a strong reputation especially in terms of academics and the coursework does reflect the same. Labs are great which is a plus if you're research oriented and eager to build a portfolio. Part time jobs for international students are mainly available on campus but these get filled up really fast so you'll have to apply early. Competition is high as well.

Great place to be independent and grow.
Tips: Syracuse has a very liberal mindset, and there are people from all over the country and the world, including Indians. Plenty of Indian food options and restaurants, as well as other cuisines. Rent is on the higher side and the vibe is very fast paced. You are expected to take care of yourself here.

Broadened my horizons and helped me grow.
Tips: Syracuse is much larger than I'd imagine and has students from all across the world. Faculty is also diverse and adequately represented. You will have to learn to advocate for yourself in order to stand out. What I like here is that all our needs are met, be it within classrooms or outside. Before you reach campus, it's a good idea to figure out your housing situation by taking the help of the student communities and befriending your fellow classmates while in India itself.

The campus culture is vibrant and happening with lots of fraternities and sororities.
Tips: I found the university quite promising yet overwhelming at first, but once I got into the flow of things, I really started seeing Syracuse for what it is. If you are planning, come after your undergrad is complete, as that will make more sense. Moreover, the campus culture is vibrant and happening with lots of fraternities and sororities. Networking potential as well.

There is a lot of potential to grow here.
Tips: Syracuse gives you a look into what you've always imagined university life to be like. There are tons of things to do and explore both on and off campus, and you can get the best of New York by studying here. Join as many peer groups as you can and attend office hours so your professors recognise you. The cost of living is high, so try to budget carefully.

Promising place to learn.
Tips: I have transitioned into a more confident, aware, and independent individual after a lot of adjustment. The city is welcoming and filled with passionate and creative people. I found it helpful to socialise by attending mixers and joining study groups and clubs that aligned with my interests or where I learned something new. Waterproof shoes have been a very useful hack because of the weather.
Likes (Indian Food): The city's diversity, especially the large Indian population, means there are plenty of restaurants and food joints offering various cuisines, not just North Indian. While some cooking essentials are a bit pricey, everything is readily available and close to campus.

Syracuse University is excellent for STEM and data science majors.
Tips: Syracuse is great for STEM-related and data science majors. My program can be intense as it is project-heavy, but it's very relevant to the industry. The engineering and business schools also interlink on several occasions, mainly for projects, which help in providing a diverse point of view. Carry spices from India, as you'll get the same stuff quite overpriced here.

A great place to learn and grow.
Tips: The biggest drawback is the cold, chilly winters, which I'm not used to at all. The campus is very friendly, with lots of open spaces and is easily walkable, but a bike would make getting around much easier. The professors are friendlier and more informal than I expected, and joining all the batch groups, as well as making connections on LinkedIn before I arrived, has been helpful.

The university is good in terms of academics and the professors are very supportive.
Tips: You will have to get accustomed to the system here as soon as possible, as the learning environment here is kind of fast-paced. I was fortunate to receive a scholarship for 5000 USD without any additional application. There is a lot of potential for research work and growth. I do feel public transport could really improve.

The campus is diverse, vibrant and always full of events.
Tips: I have experienced a cultural shift here, but it only takes a week or so to adapt to the culture. Professors are understanding but expect adequate involvement from us. Moreover, the course relevance has helped me in gaining real-time industry knowledge, and there is a strong Indian community around here as well. I would say I am beyond satisfied here.

A rewarding academic journey with a few challenges.
Tips: Students should know that Syracuse has a strong academic environment, but winters are harsh, so come prepared. Transitioning here involved adapting to the could, independent living, and a more open classroom culture. I received a merit-based scholarship during admission, which covered part of my tuition.
Likes (Part time work): On-campus jobs are fairly available, especially in dining, libraries, and tech support. Off-campus options are limited due to visa rules. Balancing part-time work with studies is manageable with good time management. Average pay ranges from $12 to $15 per hour, which helps with daily expenses.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are limited authentic Indian food options near campus. There are a few Indian restaurants, mostly mid-range in price, but the variety is limited. I prefer cooking for myself as it's more affordable and reminds me of home, where I have missed a lot of home food.

The part-time job situation is limited, and there's a scarcity of jobs in the area and throughout.
Tips: Some of the most popular and sought-after scholarships are sports scholarships, as Syracuse is very popular for its competitive sports and tournaments. Compared to other colleges in New York, this university is located in an ideal location. The campus also has some of the best infrastructure I have seen. The part-time job situation is limited, and there's a scarcity of jobs in the area and throughout. On-campus options are also limited, and with your academic commitments, especially in competitive programs, it becomes more challenging to get an ideal side hustle.

The university is good but slightly overrated.
Tips: Honesty, if you are keen on studying in the States, you should try for a better college, and you should only seriously consider going if you have some form of scholarship or backup, because it just won't be worth it otherwise. I have learnt a lot here, but I would not make the same decisions if I had another chance. But, it might suit some people, so you should keep an open mind, be a part of campus initiatives and focus on landing a job after graduation.

The campus is big on fraternities and sororities, and there are good eating options outside campus.
Tips: Studying here has provided me with an enriched experience of what it takes to be in a conventional American setting. The campus is big on fraternities and sororities, and there are better eating options outside of campus as compared to what they provide in the meal plans. The school offers so many student clubs and groups that it can be intimidating. There's something for everyone here, though, and everyone has been really welcoming, so you won't feel like you're missing out on anything if you don't join. It's a really diverse university, so you won't be feeling out of place for too long. There are many activities held on campus, try to participate in them and build some connections.

There are tons of business events and networking opportunities that will help elevate your career.
Tips: So far, the university has been great. I have transitioned well after coming here. America is a very diverse, liberal, and accepting country, with plenty to do both on and off campus. There is zero tolerance for racism or any form of homophobia, which promotes a more inclusive campus structure, and the classes are well planned, emphasising both theoretical as well as practical learning. Take advantage of networking opportunities and business events to elevate your career.

The university has a fellowship and scholarship organization that helps students get one.
Tips: I have experienced a lot of changes in my life and myself after coming here. The university is good for pursuing your post-graduation in the sciences, such as mine. The university is a good place to help you gain the knowledge you need for your career. With the ongoing issues in society today, it is becoming increasingly difficult to land or even sustain a job. It is also great that the university has a fellowship and scholarship organisation that helps in landing one of these.

A supportive and opportunity-rich environment for growth.
Tips: Students should know that Syracuse University offers strong academic resources, great faculty and lots of opportunities, but you have to take initiative to benefit from them. Be prepared for cold winters and a different classroom style, which is more interactive, and participation often counts towards grades. The transition had its ups and downs. It's a growth experience. I received a 30% tuition scholarship, which was mentioned in my I-20. I didn't have to apply separately- it was based on my academic profile and work experience during the admission process. Overall, I'm quite satisfied. The course content is aligned with industry needs, and the professors are approachable. Syracuse is a peaceful place to focus on studies, and the U. S. in general offers a lot of exposure and opportunities in teaching.
Likes (Internships): There is a good amount of guidance available for finding and applying to internships at Syracuse University. The Career Services team and the Handshake platform are very helpful. Most of the internships I've come across are highly relevant to my field of study in Computer Science. There are opportunities in software development, data analysis.
Dislikes (Indian Food): While there are a few Indian restaurants in Syracuse, the variety and authenticity don't fully match what I'm used to back home in Mumbai. The flavours are often adjusted to suit American palates, and some regional dishes, especially street food or Maharashtra cuisine, are hard to find. I prefer cooking for myself most of the time. It's more economical and lets me make the kind of Indian food I miss from home.

The university has a great atmosphere and a friendly environment.
Tips: The environment of this university and campus will bring you out of yourself, and if you are somewhat creative or athletic, this is the place for you. Professors are flexible and understanding enough as long as you maintain a positive relationship with them, and sports events are a tradition here. Tips: I have become more confident and open-minded as a person after coming here, and this can be attributed to the campus environment. The university is a bit on the expensive side but worth it.
Tips: Be prepared to apply mathematics. Every course in this university is mathematically heavy, and you will learn a lot as well. Mass Amherst does not provide any scholarships to master's students. But overall, the university is amazing for people who want to explore research and learn cutting-edge technologies.
Likes (Post study jobs): A lot of big tech companies do offer sponsor visas, and seniors in our college seem to be getting placed well. Our seniors have been placed in development roles like web development and cloud. Machine learning engineer roles are also available to students.
Dislikes (Part time work): Only dining jobs are available to graduation students, making it really convenient. Also, no research assistantship or teaching assistantship is available. Hourly positions are sometimes available in summer, but plan to have all finance already sorted.

Highly qualified faculty and a welcoming campus.
Tips: There has been a transition in various aspects of my life and personality. My courses in Mass have helped me in analysing things from various angles, which has improved my problem-solving skills and thinking ability. As my bachelor's was also in the USA, I would say life here has become quite familiar and comfortable for me. The downside is that if I don't get a job here within a certain time, I'll have to leave, and I haven't planned for that. Lot of growth in so limited time.
Tips: I have indeed seen a lot of growth and understanding develop in me after moving here. One of the crucial things Mass taught me was adaptability. Extra credit will help you stay afloat in some of the trickier courses, and there are plenty of culture-friendly options in the form of restaurants and communities, so you will always feel a sense of belonging here. Travelling within the city is convenient and affordable for students.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): There is barely any scope for actually finding a decent job after graduation here. Although some industries are open to hiring immigrants, that would be mainly in STEM fields, and it is becoming increasingly competitive by the day. Given a chance, I would love to live in this country after graduation.

An interesting sand meaningful experience.
Tips: I have transitioned well after coming here, and a lot of people back home can see the difference in my personality as well. The classes and coursework are intense, and you'll have to rely on yourself rather than expect too much spoon-feeding here. A lot of learning happens in group settings via projects and fieldwork.
Dislikes (Internships): With internships and jobs in general, a lot depends on your own network and ability to put yourself out there. There is not too much that the university involves itself with. What can help is striking a connection with professors and being active in classes and office hours.

There is an Indian student union and many events on campus. Try to participate in them.
Tips: I mainly chose to study here because of the affordability and strong faculty for my programme. Be ready for rough winters and get your winter essentials ready in time. The labs are well-equipped and huge, encouraging you to go all out. There is an Indian student union as well, and many other such cultural clubs on campus to be a part of.
Dislikes (Part time work): You are not really allowed to work part-time in a lot of places in the United States. Moreover, with my work schedule, it was really implausible to find time. You can look for roles within the campus, but that is also limited in scope and opportunities.

UMass Amherst: A leading public research university.
Tips: UMass Amherst is a big, vibrant campus with lots of energy and a strong reputation for academics, especially in majors like engineering, computer science, and business. The campus is full of amazing resources such as modern labs, huge libraries, and tons of support for internships, research, and job hunting. The professors are really knowledgeable and supportive but be ready for some healthy competition in popular classes. The coursework can be challenging, so staying on top of your schedule is key. You’ll need to find a good balance between studying and taking part in all the fun stuff happening on campus. One unique thing about UMass is its big focus on sustainability going green is a huge part of life here, and you’ll notice it everywhere. Financially, it’s a good idea to plan ahead. Living in Massachusetts is great, but it can be expensive. Housing fills up fast, so look into your options early. The university offers scholarships and financial aid, but they can be competitive, so it’s worth applying to as many as you can. When it comes to social life, there’s never a dull moment. Whether you’re into clubs, sports, music, or just hanging out, there’s always something happening. The town of Amherst has a cosy, small-town feel, but it’s not overflowing with things to do, so students often find their own fun on campus or go exploring in nearby areas. Overall, UMass Amherst is an excellent choice for students seeking a quality education in a supportive, dynamic environment.

Great university in terms of research and it is really peaceful.
Tips: The transition to the University of Massachusetts Amherst was smooth academically, but there was a noticeable cultural shift socially. There are no scholarships at the University of Massachusetts Amherst at the master's level, but there are a few benefits like tuition waivers for Teaching Assistantships (TAs) or Research Assistantships (RAs) but not in courses like MS CS and MS B.A.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The professors are really good and focus on how well you have understood anything. They maintain regular office hours, and many are open to scheduling additional time if you have further questions or need guidance. The courses are designed to provide both theoretical and application-based knowledge. The university is well diverse.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are no Indian restaurants nearby. Most of the foods are of different cuisines. The university does have its own dining facilities, where good food is provided but the food is mostly not from my country of origin. If you are looking for good Indian food, you will have to go to Boston.

Tips: The coursework would be tough, the place is bit remote. There is no TA/RA positions but plenty of on-campus jobs are available. Learn to balance everything together. Explore as much as possible. Good course.
Tips: Not much cultural shift is there to experience. No scholarships are there at University of Massachusetts Amherst. Everything is good as of now, courses are also good.
Umass is a bit of research oriented so if you are interested to research then go for it.
Very less systems courses, so if you are not into AI/ML things then think again.
Likes (Student Life): Student life is pretty cool, there are many gyms and many sports activities if you are interested. The food also is great in the commons where you can get all sorts of foods including Indian food, so it's pretty much covered, and the living is a bit expensive which is a problem.
Dislikes (Value for money): It's very expensive so think about that as well. And there are no TA or RA jobs so that is another minus point. The only part time allowed is the UMass dining, which helps you get food and money which is decent enough and also there will be no way of income.

Course framework is good for work opportunities.
Tips: TA/RAs are not allowed in the CS department but it is allowed in the other departments. Happy with the course. Scholarships are not available for this course. A cultural shift is also present. Food is difficult to get from India so knowing cooking before coming here is a must.
Likes (Value for money): Course content is good. ML is upcoming and Mass Amherst has a very high rating for Machines Learning or Data Science concentration in Computer Science. For other courses, there is a possibility of TA/RA and in MS CS there is a possibility of gradership. Even good part-time jobs are available to keep you giving.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Permanent immigration is difficult in the US. But after doing an MS the chances are less since H-1B renewal is less. If the school is offering Ph.D. programs and is a public land-grant university, like Mass Amherst, it will offer Ph.D. programs and will give you a chance at immigration options.

Extremely good for Computer Science
Tips: This university does provide TA or RA easily. Grade posts can be applied and is quite easy to get into. Otherwise, there are plenty of research opportunities and diversified faculty research fields. Courses such as RL are a must for computer Science students as the concepts are originated here.
Likes (Part time work): There are about 4 dining common and 1 canteen, hence plenty of openings are available for students. They allow the student employees to eat there after their shifts and provide a health and wellness fund. The pay per hour is also good enough Hence, the benefits are plenty.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Indian restaurants are very few at Amherst, compared to other cities in the US. There are about 3 restaurants about 10 miles away from the place, good authentic Indian food. Either way, you have an option in Doordash from these restaurants. Cannot expect too many options.
