Established in 1863, the University of Massachusetts Amherst is the largest public research university in New England. It is one of the best study abroad universities for international students, as University of Massachusetts Amherst Ranking has been consistent among the top 250 global universities for a decade now. It has ranked #58 in National Universities, #26 in Top Public Schools, #162 in Best Global Universities, and #110 in Best Value Schools. Moreover, the university was ranked #247 in the QS World University Rankings.

Students across the globe apply to the university's admissions; however, only a fraction of candidates secure enrollment due to the competitive nature of the university. UMass Amherst offers 110 UG majors and 127 graduate programs through offline and online modes.

UMass Amherst Acceptance Rate 2025

For the class of 2029, UMass Amherst received over 53,000 applications from prospective students, and the number of student enrollments stood at around 5,300. However, the acceptance rate for the class of 2029 is yet to be announced. The latest information available reveals that the class of 2029 is the most diverse in the university's history, with an age range from 16 to 26. Students showed interest in 92 different majors, and UMass biology was the most chosen subject, with over 400 first-year students opting for it.

For Fall 2024, UMass Amherst acceptance rate stood at 59.7%, making the University of Massachusetts Amherst admission criteria moderately selective. UMass Amherst yield rate, on the other hand, is 17.9%. The incoming class for the Fall 2025 intake of the Commonwealth Honors College enrolled 640 undergraduate students, and around 53% of students identify themselves as ALANA, while more than a quarter are from underrepresented minority groups. Moreover, the UMass BBA acceptance rate has been declared to range between 5-10% from now on. UMass Amherst Acceptance Rate for International Students

The class of 2029 of the university represents 43 U.S. states and around two dozen different countries. The number of students identifying themselves as ALANA (African, Latino/Hispanic, Asian, Hawaiian/Pacific Islander, and Native American) has gone up to 42% for Fall 2025 from the last year's figure of 39%. 19% account for underrepresented minority groups. A total of 400 international students are joining the class of 2029. 

For Fall 2024, UMass Amherst received over 6,300 applications from international students, but only around half of them were offered admission to the university. The number of students admitted crossed 3,300, whereas the number of international student enrollments stood at 407, marking the University of Massachusetts acceptance rate for international students to be 52.8%

UMass Amherst has been receiving an increased number of applications over the years. It has witnessed a growth of over 10,000 in the number of applications received from prospective students. However, the number of students admitted has only increased by around 4,000. UMass Amherst Early Action VS Regular Decision Acceptance Rate

Every year, the University of Massachusetts Amherst admits international students through Early Action as well as Regular Decision.
