Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Biomass Technology (In German) - Batch of 2026
3.4
I gained a lot of knowledge during my education.
Tips: They need to research properly about the course properly. In my opinion, don't select a university based on its ranking in Germany. Select the course that is more interesting to you and learn. Before selecting a course search for career opportunities in the field.
Likes (Public transportation): Due to the Deutschland ticket, it's affordable and people can use any time of public transportation. With this ticket, I have travelled all around Germany at free of cost. Also public transportation is really good and it's almost on time. So especially students can travel all around Germany for free of cost.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Due to the economic crisis and language barriers, companies are not hiring people. Student who have passed need to go back after their job seeking visas. Also, due to a lack of integration with the German culture, which is a major problem. Normally, after education, they are offered a research assistant position in universities and a research institute after Master's degree.

A hub of research, diversity and excellence.
Tips: I'm grateful to be studying in one of the best universities in the world. TUM offers world class education and professors are highly qualified and knowledgeable. You can also apply for scholarships if you're planning to study here. I myself didn't avail any for TUM but I got an Erasmus scholarship for my semester abroad exchange in Austria. I'm content with whatever course I'm studying. I've grown personally and academically after coming here. The only thing is that searching for a part time job is hard if you don't know German. It has been a good experience so far for me.

Good opportunities and friendly campus.
Tips: Be ready to invest in learning beyond the syllabus. Required knowledge for an exam or presentation is not limited to the lecture presentations, but self study as well. Look for scholarships in advance to avail them. Finding the right balance between academics, job and social life could be a bit confusing in the beginning but prioritising is the key. Mental health care is a must. Having a good group of friends and classmates would play a way important role in shaping you're life abroad away from home.
Likes (Safety): Having been on that campus, there has never been a moment of unsafe feeling. There are quick helplines in case of any kind of emergency. There was a case where I forgot my mobile phone on the train, but thankfully, the person who found the phone informed us and arranged for a place to collect it from.
Dislikes (Part time work): Part time jobs on campus would depend on your profile from previous degrees and experiences and language flexibility. There are boards for 'Job postings' in the canteen, which would have part time, internship and even PhD postings. There are also databases for internships guiding us through the departments, universities and institutes that we could explore, not only nationally but also internationally. To have a good balance between academics and part -time jobs/internships, on campus opportunities are definitely easier, especially for the initial 1 or 2 semesters, where academics could be a bit intense. Average pay for these jobs would vary, from 13.5 to 15 euros or more depending on the type of job, whether in-campus or outside. For off-campus part time jobs are available and making use of all resources as possible, online sites, job fairs, or even posters in stores that would need a part-time employee.

An inclusive and engaging learning environment.
Tips: The transition was not easy initially but I adapted myself really well within the next few months. Right from the change of food, weather, to even teaching methodology and the way they asked questions in the exam. I did not pay any tuition fees except the student union fees, which were around 75 euros.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The faculty are very accessible and friendly. We are encouraged to share our inputs freely. Regarding the teaching methodology that I find the most unique is the way the faculty involves everyone in the discussion. In terms of nationality, it is very diverse.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Being a vegetarian I was a little sceptical but there are lots of restaurants, cafes and bakeries around the university. I prefer cooking myself. But at the same time, you get to taste the best pretzels, Berliners and croissants. It's a blend of unique and traditional cooking that one gets to see in Germany.

It’s one of the best university to study in Germany. Also it’s Industry and research oriented.
Tips: Students should first have clarity about choosing their field of study and register for required courses at the earliest so as to get a fixed place, and one of the major things they should do is look for accommodation well in advance. Better to learn a basic level of German or to register for a language course very well in advance, as it's very competitive to get a fixed place.
Likes (Student Life): Student life is on point, we can concentrate on academics and we have a student union which facilitates us to participate in extra-curricular activities as well. So you can enjoy your student life completely and have some opportunity to be part of student perks as tickets for movies, travel everything will be on concession.
Dislikes (Safety): Professors come down themselves to take the classes which is super beneficial as some of them are like veterans in their field of study and one best thing is we have a platform called Moodle where lecturer uploads everything before the class. Some of the courses also have practical experience, so it's one of the good things.

Build connections, set boundaries, and maintain a balance in your work.
Tips: Be friendly and communicate well. Build connections, set boundaries and maintain a balance in your work. Recognise your accomplishments and work honestly, without trying to please everyone.
Likes (Public transportation): Public transportation is well connected from student dorms and the university on weekdays from 7 am to 10 pm in Freising. The Munich campus has better connectivity. In Freising the main modes of transport are buses while in Munich it's Regional trains or S Bahn. Munich also has good U Bahn and tram connectivity. Public transport is affordable, but it often experiences delays.
Dislikes (Part time work): The number of campus jobs is limited, making it somewhat challenging, especially initially. However, it improves over time as you learn the best approach. Besides off campus jobs, such as odd jobs, most require German language skills; if you have an A2 level, many opportunities exist. The average pay for part time work is around 15 to 16 euros/hour for on campus positions and 12.50 to 15 euros/hour for odd jobs.

Punctuality is highly valued. Securing jobs and internships can be difficult.
Tips:
Winters can be challenging consider supplements, socialise and get outside. Summers are wonderful; make the most of them. Be dedicated and proactive as you won't be spoon-fed. Learn the local language it's incredibly helpful. Learn to cook. Don't be afraid to connect with people; friends are invaluable. Maintain good hygiene and be tidy; there are no excuses for messiness. Punctuality is highly valued. While securing jobs and internships can be difficult, it's not impossible. Respect the new culture and integrate well – avoid littering, excessive talking, rudeness, and discrimination. The studies are not difficult, but you need to determine what to focus on. Participate in as many projects as possible and genuinely care about your work, and pursue hobbies.
Likes (Public transportation):
The public transportation network is huge, well-connected, and regular. Trains run late sometimes, but buses are very frequent, except on Sundays and you can reach most places. Touristy routes tend to be very crowded, especially on weekends. Get a bike and use it; it's the best commuting option.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Indian Food in general is not the most delicious, especially the affordable options. You need to go for expensive options. Indian grocery stores are also quite expensive, but worth it for some items. Other cuisines are cheaper but not always tasty. Try to cook at home and eat out 2-3 times a month.

TUM is very student-friendly and welcoming.
Tips: There are some significant cultural shocks as German culture is quite different from Indian culture. You'll need to be open to new ideas. I didn't get any scholarship as there was no tuition fee when I studied. University, and course were good. The country's bureaucracy could be better. But alas, no one wants to pay for it.
Likes (Student Life): Go to the lectures, and listen carefully. It’s also good to work with a diverse group of students. There are parties, festivals, and job fairs, and I would recommend trying to participate in as many of these as you can. You’ll find that there’s a student club for almost every activity, and if there isn’t one for something you’re interested in, you can even form your own, and the university will support you as long as it is a reasonable undertaking.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): The chances of permanent immigration are high, but the process is long, irritating, and complicated. You'll need to learn the language, and the waiting times to even process the application are in months or years sometimes. I'd like to immigrate, but the only thing holding me back is that I can't bring my parents in the long term.

Education system is way more application and industrial oriented.
Tips: Getting to know lots of people from India and other countries makes me feel connected. There isn't a big culture shift, as the people are friendly and you can greet strangers. However, knowing the language will help, especially for buying groceries and completing daily chores. The university offers a lot of really good internships that range from 5 to 15 credit hours. But they tend to get snapped up fast, so you need to keep your eye out and apply the moment you see an opening. The faculty are approachable and easy to communicate with, which is really nice when you need help getting ready for an interview. I also really like the faculty, and I appreciate how friendly and approachable they are. I find them easy to contact and get advice from.
Dislikes (Part time work): Part-time work is not easy to get, especially for students who don't know German. It's around 5 hours of work for 3 days per week, which is hard to manage with studies. But in Germany, classes happen only 2-3 days. In such cases, scheduling the work properly helps. Basic payout is 12.5 euros per hr depending on the job. If you know German, then the job will be quite easy to do.

Entrepreneurial university with great facilities.
Tips: The university is very good in terms of ranking and recognition. The course contents are updated and correspond to current real-world examples. Some courses are at a different campus, which might require proper time management. Also, various classes can happen at the same time. Internships are slightly difficult in the current market. Moreover, knowing German would be a significant advantage. There's no specific guidance from the university, we have to try for it on our own. If some professors found something within their circle, they would post it.
Likes (Public transportation): Most of the locations within city limits are well connected. There are three campuses within Munich and on the edge of the city. They are well-connected in peak hours, but, some areas on the outskirts will have less frequent transportation after 9 p.m. But the limits are good and well-connected.

Multicultural and immersive experience.
Tips: It's a different culture, of course, so one should be prepared for the change. In my case, I know B2 German by this point, and my partner is German as well, so I've had the opportunity to get immersed in the culture here. I'd say it's important to at least make friends from different places and not to stay in your comfort zone. I have the Deutschlandstipendium, which gives me 300 euros per month and has made life easier for me. In addition, I also got a student job at university as a research assistant and have been doing research internships at university as well. There is some latent racism towards foreigners amidst the local population, but don't pay too much attention to it. Just do what you gotta do and let them be.

The Deutschland ticket lets you travel anywhere easily, and the trains are normally on time.
Tips: For me, as a personal experience, the transition from India to Germany was relatively easy, as I already had friends from India who helped me to easily integrate into Germany. For the people who are coming, if it's their first time, it won't be that easy to adjust at first, but once you make friends and start getting out of your comfort zone, it will be worth the time. I didn’t apply for any scholarships.
Likes (Public transportation): The mode of transportation is really well done in Germany. Especially for TUM, it is really well done, as with the ' Deutschland ticket you could easily travel anywhere, and the trains are usually on time. The price of the ticket after the student discount is around 38 euros which 3,5000 which is highly worth it for the money.
Dislikes (Indian Food): The German food is bland and not that good compared to Indian food. Also, Indian restaurants are a bit on the expensive side, and it really takes getting to know them to cook. So, it's always good to come prepared.

University is excellent and we have many on-campus activities as well.
Tips: Life isn’t easy at this university, but it’s not difficult either. The first thing you need to do after you enrol is to find your people. I believe the tuition I have paid is for my own good, as it will help the university obtain better equipment and the other necessary things that students require. These tuition fees are used for our benefit. Many events also take place because of it. It’s easy to find off-campus part-time work. This can be managed alongside schoolwork because you can take on a job with flexible hours. You’re paid based on the job type, for example, part-time, full-time, or minijob. The minimum wage is €12-13 per hour.

Innovative and green tech hub.
Tips: TUM Starubing offers great research, but students should expect a small-town life. The cultural shift was real but manageable. I got a DAAD scholarship via an online application helped with living costs.
Likes (Post study jobs): Student life at TUM Starubing is vibrant and close-knit. I enjoy the balance of academics, events, and community. My day includes classes, group work, and club meets. I love the campus vibe, sustainability focus, and events like BBQs, workshops, and student club activities.
Dislikes (Safety): The faculty at TUM Straubing is highly qualified, approachable, and supportive. Teaching blends theory with real-world projects and interdisciplinary methods. While mainly German, the faculty includes international researchers and guest lecturers, adding diverse perspectives.

There are plenty of holidays, and there is no rat race.
Tips: I am a solitary being, generally immersed in my work, so I don't experience much of a cultural difference. However, work-wise, the work-life balance is amazing. You get to live your life to the fullest while you enjoy your work. There are plenty of holidays, and there is no rat race. I got the merit-based fee waiver that reduced my tuition fee from 40 to 72 euros. There is a simple application to be on the lookout for the timeline. There is a need-based one as well, which is easy to get.
Likes (Post study jobs): There are a lot of options to work around. Once you get into Europe, moving around is pretty easy. The easiest way to get into Europe is via a Master's programme like mine. The next easiest is via a Ph.D. To taste the experience, you can always apply for the DAAD. A lot of engineering and managerial job roles are available.
Dislikes (Indian Food): The food options available are: the cheap, basic options of done box and done kebab, pricier pizzas and burgers, but not very good, and the priciest of all, Indian food, which costs around 15 euros at the cheapest place. The cheap doner kebab is usually around 4 to 5 euros per meal.

Student union will help you with any problem you are facing.
Tips: Transition was not that difficult for me as I had good flatmates and friends. I did not get any financial scholarships, but I ended up getting the TUMJA research scholarship, which is pretty amazing. TUM is known to be one of the best universities in Germany, so that says it all, I guess.
Likes (Student Life): Student life at TUM is good. You can volunteer/participate in events that help you connect with people from industries in your field. The student union will help you with any problem you are facing. There are tutors and student coordinators to guide you in your academic studies.
Dislikes (Internships): You are good to go if you have the required skill set and a good hold on the German language. Here in Germany, you are mostly on your own, so I recommend having a good LinkedIn account and increasing your connections, which later will help you find jobs.

A memorable experience - TUM and Munich.
Tips: The weather is going to be harsh except for summer. Make the best use of your Schengzen Visa. Cooking is a very important and underrated skill. The number of hours you have to put in depends a lot on the courses you take. Much better flexibility in terms of choice of courses. As an IITian with a CSE degree, I can vouch for that. Learn German to make life easier.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The faculty members with whom I integrated were really passionate about teaching. Unlike in India, there isn't a strong hierarchy and faculty members wouldn't want to give you a BT usually. The teaching faculty was fairly diverse, and it mostly comprised European teachers. Recorded lectures, assignments, and solutions were properly maintained and were available for a lot of courses. I skipped going to university whenever it was too cold to travel.
Dislikes (Value for money): Recently, there has been a semester fee hike. However, it is a great ROI if you want to work in Europe. Informatics is great in TUM, with a very large strength and good courses and resources. I would say that proper campus placements do not happen like in Indian IITs, so you must go around job hunting.

A path to excellence and success.
Tips: You can expect an academic shift. The quality of education is very good. TUM has now started imposing fees to the non-EU students but you can expect scholarships based on your profile. The university also provides a helpline number and organizes social groups that can assist students. Students struggling with stress can attend regular sessions to ease their stress. I had a wonderful experience at the university. Munich is a beautiful city that has many festivals and fairs worth attending, like the Oktoberfest and the Garnix. I'm totally satisfied. It was my dream to study here. It feels really good to be here at TUM.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): In Germany, if you study at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), you can receive a blue card when you secure a full-time job offer. Your career prospects will be excellent, depending on your profile. In addition, blue card salaries are generally high. If you complete the MSPE program, you can become a simulation engineer or a battery engineer. However, it all depends on how you tailor your CV.

The infrastructure is not so good but the professors are very helpful and friendly.
Tips: I've felt like I've known the college since I joined SETU. There wasn't any cultural difference on campus, but I did notice some cultural difference outside the campus. That's common, though. I received a scholarship from the college that significantly reduced the amount I had to pay for tuition. When it comes to safety, I am very much satisfied with it. Apart from campus security, when you come out of campus to explore places without any safety concern, we have Gaurda (police) who facts quickly when the situation turn bad. Mostly the people are cool, so there is no need to worry about safety. When I had to work, I worked until 3 a. m. , and after work I had to walk for an hour to get home. I enjoy walking home and it's easy to walk home at that time without any fear. Overall, I am moderate satisfied with my experiences.
Dislikes (Value for money): I don't think the modules which we are studying are that in-depth. They are just very easy to learn, and I could also learn them without a professor. I think I paid more tuition feels for this kind of modules, and it is far below the standards.

The curriculum is tough and you have to submit your assignments on time.
Tips: Students should be aware of the college life, academic programs, campus culture, extra-curricular activities, support services, the location, time management expectations, and required resources for success and failure. You should also research the college thoroughly before applying, which includes looking at how you will pay for your education and whether the university offers scholarships. It is a good university, and they provide the educational resources that are industry relevant.
Tips: There is no culture change here, but you can apply for a scholarship of up to 4,000 euros. I am pleased with the university and its professors. In the coming days, getting a part-time job will be much more difficult because too many students are coming to Ireland. This is the main reason for the part-time shortage in Ireland currently. Many new students are struggling to find part-time work. It will take up to 3 months to find a part-time job. If you have skills and a little bit of English-speaking skills, you can easily get a job here. I've seen more Indians in the IT field than Irish because skill is important in every job and opportunity. Learn a skill before applying for a job. It's not the best in Ireland, but overall, it is a good school with plenty of educational resources.

SETU is a good university with structured courses.
Tips: Students coming from different backgrounds might experience a bit of a cultural shift. SETU offers a range of scholarships through an application process that assesses academics. Most students find SETU's courses well structured. The faculty is always there to help students do their best, and students should not hesitate to ask for help. Cheap and the best, however, Dublin has opportunities in terms of professional jobs as compared to Waterford if you can spend some extra money go to Dublin.
Likes (Public transportation): Public transportation in Waterford is quite good. Being a small city a lot of buses run from the city centre however, you need to get a student leap card online that will cost you very cheap public transport so get a leap student card as soon as you land.
Dislikes (Indian Food): For food, if you know how to cook it will be best for you and would be really cheap however if you order or go out it will be expensive. Please learn cooking else you will save nothing here. Especially for vegetarians, life is difficult if you don't know how to cook.

A place to shape your career
Tips: We might face a little cultural difference at first but we get used to it. The people around are quite friendly. I have learned to be independent and manage my expenses. We have a very good work-life balance here.
The course I opted for didn’t have any scholarship. The university is good. You will get to learn a lot. Although the weather in Ireland is a bit gloomy. Be ready to experience all the seasons in a single day.
Likes (Quality of faculty): You can reach to faculty any time over calls or mails. They try to rectify students' doubts. The study is mostly practical based so the understanding of the concepts is clear. The faculty are majority Irish, and their accent is a little difficult to catch at first but you will get used to it.
Dislikes (Indian Food): Ireland doesn’t have many India restaurants and the ones that are present are comparatively very high. A biryani would be more than 20 euros.
Baguettes are one of the cheapest options you can find here (€5). I would prefer to cook at home and eat mostly at home.

Waterford Institute of Technology has a diverse campus life.
Tips: After moving you will find yourself living independently and learning to speak fluently without any hesitation. Also, would suggest meeting new people and joining cultural clubs which would help out a lot. You can also participate in sports events which are held here semi-annually.
Likes (Safety): Many international students from different parts of the world and diversities study here at Carlow campus. Locals are very friendly and racism or hate crime is a very rare phenomenon here. Campus authorities and local people help out a lot which makes it easier.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): Common industries in Waterford include healthcare, education, manufacturing, and technology but preferential treatment is given to candidates. Also, lots of scope is there after engineering and IT but you will have to work out and search a lot to get the best company offering you PSW visa.

Best at Public transportation.
Tips: It's a good decision if you have opted to come here, it's a good opportunity and the college is really nice. The campus is really beautiful. There are well-connected bus routes to the college so travelling is not a hassle. There are a lot of sports and club activities which will keep you indulged throughout the semester.
Likes (Public transportation): Its very well connected. There are cycles for public everywhere around the city where you can rent them around the campus as well. So that's a good option and apart from that the bus routes are well connected and the timings are also good so you can make use of them.
Dislikes (Indian Food): The food is not similar to what we get in India, you will have to sacrifice here. The food here is expensive. From a student's perspective, it's very difficult to buy food from Indian shops because it's expensive. The canteen food is also not priced at a level where you can have a meal there regularly.
