Challenging yet Fulfilling experience at the University of Toronto
Tips: 1) The transition is the most difficult part of the process. There is a huge cultural shift, and the only way to overcome it is with time. I have become very independent, and honestly, the experience gives one the confidence to survive and thrive in any situation in any part of the world. 2) I received the International Scholars Award that contributes $180,000 towards my tuition at the university. It's an admission award given based on the student profile. 3) I am very satisfied with my education. I feel very confident about my future career options because of the skills and the opportunities I have gained over the last 4 years at the university.

Learning about myself everyday
Tips: Just come with an open mind, because almost every social norm is different from back home, and to thrive, you need to be social; otherwise, you might end up alone. I feel communication is by far the most important skill, so put yourself out there in situations where you are comfortable and have to communicate in all sorts of situations and with people from diverse backgrounds.
Likes (Student Life): The campus being in the heart of downtown Toronto, you can never get bored, and there is so much to do. The thing I enjoy most about my college life is to go on random side quests with my friend, play a random sport, explore the city, etc. I don't really participate much on campus, but there are tons of communities and opportunities.
Dislikes (Internships): Some faculty members' resources are very limited, and they don't prepare you very well for networking and job hunting. You need to do the majority of the work yourself, and even seeking help hasn't been very useful from my personal experience. Internships in Toronto are available in almost all fields.

Life and Research at UofT
Tips: Look, let's be totally real about U of T—the place is a brutal academic monster. There's a genuine reason everyone on campus calls it 'U of Tears.' The workload is just insane, the standards are ridiculously high and it honestly takes over your entire life. But if you can survive the grind, the sheer scale of the courses, the world-class mentorship, and the research opportunities you get access to are unmatched. Because Toronto is easily the most multicultural city in Canada, that exact energy bleeds right onto the campus. You'll find your people here pretty quickly, and blending into the student population isn't the hard part. The real challenge for international students is locking down doctoral funding. While U of T does guarantee a baseline graduate stipend package to support PhDs, direct international scholarships are highly competitive and limited. If you can secure your financial footing, it is easily one of the best, most well-equipped places on the planet to pursue serious research.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): I understand that Canada is still welcoming immigrants and is not as tight in providing permanent residency (PR) to immigrants as many other countries right now. Students pursuing higher education may have a higher chance of getting a PR here. If available oppourtinities feel right, I may decide to stay longer in this country.

Though competitive in academics, there are many resources to help students along the way.
Tips: Quite the academically inclined college. Academics are rigorous, but the quality of education is also great! Resources are available to students to help throughout education such as health and counselling services, recreational services, women's equity centre, etc.
Likes (Public transportation): Free bus is very helpful. Many free resources are invested in by the student union. These resources, including free busing for students, health insurance, free counselling services, allow students to have the resources they need in order to do well.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): In Biology, an undergraduate degree is often insufficient in the job hunt. Post-grad jobs after a Biology undergraduate degree can be very competitive due to this. Due to the competitiveness, it can be overwhelming for students to try and find jobs after graduation.

Tips: The cultural shift was quite drastic, but still did not feel too unfamiliar. I enjoyed going to classes and learning new things, but the experience was not anything like what I expected. It wasn't as easy to be socially active and find your kind of people.
University was quite academically rigorous, which didn't leave me with a lot of time to focus on other things. The course was something I thoroughly enjoyed, but I still wanted more guidance to tap into all that the course had to offer. The country was average. Things like the increased prices on rent, transportation and groceries did make it a little difficult. Having the campus centrally located meant not a lot of community engagement within the college.

Tips: Life in Toronto is full of surprises and activity. There's never much of a dull moment here. Classes are well structured and formulated in a way that they cover all essential aspects of your chosen field and the business programs are particularly renowned. Professors are wise and empathetic. Keep essentials from India especially medicines, as the winters can really trigger sickness if you're not used to it. Most of my meals are cooked and most groceries are available as well. The faculty is extremely well-qualified and leading in their respective fields.
Tips: There is definitely a lot of exposure to different cultures, and a lot of freedom given to students. Students at the University of Toronto Mississauga are in charge of their own studies, which I think was probably the biggest cultural change. Unlike in school, you are responsible for your own progress, and nobody will follow up with you. You take charge of your education and assignments. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with the experience. While the workload can be tough, the assignments help us gain a better understanding of the topic and subject. The University of Toronto has definitely helped shape my personality and made me more independent.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The faculty is extremely well-qualified and leading in their respective fields. Professors are increasingly helpful and kind, especially during office hours, and will patiently explain concepts until fully understood. Some professors go out of their way to accommodate students. Teaching assistants are also extremely helpful. The teaching methodology is mainly research-centric, with many assignments involving research and project work, which aids in better understanding. The campus's diversity is reflected in the teaching faculty, with professors of various nationalities.
Dislikes (Public transportation): The campus is well-connected to the rest of the city, being a major bus stop in Mississauga with nearly all buses passing through. While bus connectivity is excellent, occasional delays do occur, though rarely. I've rated it four stars because, although there's good bus service, the train connectivity throughout the city isn't as strong, and you'll primarily rely on buses.

Tips: The cultural shift here is real and expected, but not as bad as one would anticipate. Once you spend some time on campus, you will find yourself immersed in the city life and your classes to the point you'll have a pretty sorted routine. There are a bunch of mixers held downtown, so always stay a step ahead and network like a pro. Try to be active during classes and discussions, and ask as many questions and doubts you have. Fantastic college that outshines most of the popular private universities.
Tips: There is a cultural difference. People coming from India will need time to adjust to Austin and the US. UT offers a scholarship along with your admission letter. You can still mail and apply, but the success rate is very low. I earned a scholarship of 5000 with my admission letter. The best way to get a scholarship is to apply in the first round. I am very satisfied with the university, still adjusting to the country. I would say the course is good, but it's very important to know that it is more analytical than described on the website.
Likes (Public transportation): UT students can use all the public transportation in Austin for free. The bus services are great and are mostly on time. The bus services cover all the major areas of Austin that students would like to visit. Even if you have a guest coming over, the bus pass is also very affordable.
Dislikes (Part time work): This is a 10-month course, and due to this, there is no option for TA/RA/Internship. There are many part-time opportunities, but due to a very tight schedule, student of this course cannot do most of them. The ones we can do are for PTS (Parking and Transportation Services) and Dining. The average pay is $14.
