A prestigious institute at the capital
Tips: The University of Ottawa is excellent institute in terms of world ranking. You will find an amazing faculty here. The social and cultural events are add-ons. They celebrate some of the Indian festivals at the campus like Holi party. It has good public transportation services. UOttawa has a train station inside the campus and you can travel for free anywhere in the city from the pass provided by the university.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The faculty of University of ottawa is great. All the professors hold Ph.D. degrees and are very knowledgeable in their respective subjects. Mostly all the professors have 10+ years of field experience which is very helpful in favour of the students. Also, the course curriculum depends upon the professor.
Dislikes (Internships): For MEng Civil Engineering, University of ottawa is not offering any co-op terms. You have to find the internship by yourself and apply for co-op permit if you get the internship. However, the university will help you in the process but you have to spend some extra money for that.

Exciting and fun environment to deepen your knowledge and build relationships.
Tips: Be open to any challenges to face here, sometimes you will have to manage all your expenses and food, and at times you might even feel lonely. But during these hard times, you will have to go through this with the utmost sheer will. Come prepared when coming for international studies, such as the accommodation, roommates, and other documents needed here so that you won't get stranded when the time comes.
Through social platforms like LinkedIn and WhatsApp contact persons who already went there for additional information or if possible maybe related to your programme as well.
Likes (Value for money): The overall course structure has many practical components such as projects and assignments relevant to the industry standards which benefits students who are applying for jobs. The part-time available positions are high in number so at least the expenses will be covered. Even though the job market is a little low now due to the recession, many postings and opportunities are coming our way.
Dislikes (Safety): There is always police surveillance throughout the area. There are few specific streets to avoid as they are filled with people who are on not trustworthy. But overall at least where I am living the safety measures taken by the government are actually good.

One must choose this university.
Tips: Should be fully prepared to be independent. Accept that leaving out of home is gonna be challenging. Yet it's gonna be alright. Prepare for the course as much as possible before even it starts. Find some friends who are studying the same course. Build your connections. Do your own research.
Likes (Part time work): I was able to find part jobs within 14 days of landing. Build a Canadian-style resume. Apply for part jobs on online website like LinkedIn, Glassdoor, indeed etc. I even went to each store in malls and handed out my resume personally to the managers.
Dislikes (Indian Food): I prefer to eat home-cooked meals as outside foods are very expensive and have very less vegetarian options. But outside food here is clean and has a lot of Indian restaurants. For me, food was never a problem. I could easily manage cooking although I never cooked my own food in India.

University of Ottawa is better for Masters
Tips: Before enrolling in university, students should conduct thorough research, focus on the available courses in their field of interest, co-op prospects, and TA positions. I was fortunate to secure a $500 allowance. Adjusting to climate change might present some challenges, but with proper preparation and resources, it can be manageable.
Likes (Part time work): There are many part-time opportunities on and off campus which offers flexibility and easy balance work with studies. Average pay is 16.55/hr and it's even higher around 18-21$/hr for security and TA positions. Coming to the on-campus jobs there are many administrative and office jobs for students. For off-campus they can work in retail, walmart/grocery stores and the food industry too.
Dislikes (Post study jobs): I'm not sure about the companies that sponsor visas but there are many opportunities for IT people, especially in networking and development fields. For core, there are opportunities in embedded systems. As I said earlier the jobs for freshers would be more in networking, embedded etc. The salaries range from 70k-100k (CAD). If one is developed and experienced, the salary can be more than that.

Well organized and world’s largest bilingual university
Tips: It is a bit tough in the starting phase as you will face homesickness. The best advice I can give is to study before you come to study as the education level is well advanced. There are no scholarships for international students that you can get.
I am satisfied with my coursework and university programme.
Likes (Public transportation): Well, the transportation service is actually good. There are options of buses and metro which are connected to even corners of cities. The timing interval between buses is also max. 20 minutes which will help you to reach your desired destination. It is very good.
Dislikes (Internships): In Master programme there are no internships. So there is nothing you can do to save your fees but if you perform well there are chances that you can avail internship. In Bachelor you can get it but not in the master programme. The University website has described everything.

My university is fun, challenging and provides opportunities
Tips: You should come here prepared as the education style is completely different and just passing the exam is not going to get decent grades in your course. You need to focus on projects, assignments as in India we take all these lightly and tend to complete them just before the submission date, that’s not going to work here as the assignments are challenging and require in-depth knowledge of the course that you are pursuing.
Likes (Post study jobs): The market here is full of opportunities and one has to grab them by keep on applying for jobs. My seniors also gave me positive feedback about the same. Also, the Canadian job market requires you to network with the people that are already in the market so it’s important to connect to them through LinkedIn.
Dislikes (Internships): My course doesn’t have a CO-OP so it will be a little hard to get an internship. But nevertheless one can get internship if he applies through company portal and if he manages to get an internship the university does back that job offer with a support letter which helps in getting visa to start working as full time in Canada.

Big campus with diverse population.
Tips: Cornell has a really big campus and an even bigger student population. There are more than 15,000 undergraduates, so you can always find your community and close friends. I did not face a big cultural shock as I was able to connect with people really well and got along with them. Before applying to Cornell, definitely research about the major you are going to apply at Cornell. Look at the clubs you are interested in and the professors with whom you would love to research with. For people applying from India, there is TATA scholarship and you are nominated for it after you submit the CSS form. I am really satisfied with my experience so far at Cornell and with my major courses that I have taken. Exploring more of this place gives me new ventures each time. Interacting with professors has helped me strategies my preparation strategy for exams and in general for the class.
Likes (Part time work): It is easy to find an on-campus job at Cornell as they have their own hiring website which makes the process hassle-free. There are a lot of jobs available on campus such as in libraries, cafes, dining halls, TA positions, RA positions, etc. I am not sure about the off-campus jobs as it utilizes CPT. The part-time work is manageable along with the school work as you are only working around 6-10 hours/week. The average payout for the job is 15-18/hr depending on where you are working.
Dislikes (Student Life): An average day of mine includes going to classes, helping students in classes as a teaching student and then studying at a library, preferably Olin or Uris Library. There were a lot of events during the orientation week, and I found most of my friends during that period. I also attended a few Indian events like Garba night, Diwali night where I can find my own community and have fun with my friends. There are numerous opportunities on campus to get involved with student clubs. Like, I am currently in the Blockchain club which deals with blockchain, ethereum, crypto-related things where we find new information and learn with peers.

De-stereotyping Cornell and Navigating the Job Hunt
Tips: The job application process in the US is quite cumbersome. The culture is vastly different compared to Asian countries. There are several research opportunities and professors are open to taking in students even after their first semester. Prepare to work on an assignment for at least 2 full weeks because there might be errors that are commonly occurring for the whole class.
Likes (Quality of faculty): The faculty are very passionate about their field of teaching. They are mostly affiliated to some or the other company which enables them to have various research opportunities for students. Most professors are willing to spend time outside of class to clarify doubts.
Dislikes (Student Life): The students get really busy and there is not enough time to spend on other activities. Finding your community and groups that align with your interests is important in order to continue pursuing your interests. There are a lot of cultural events and hackathons that take place which connect you with industry professionals.

The professors are helpful and guide you through.
Tips: To transfer from undergraduate to graduate school is a significant shift as in graduate school you need to do everything on your own but the professors here guide you throughout the process. It is very rare to get a scholarship for master's unless you do a Ph.D. degree.
Likes (Public transportation): The campus is well connected as we have the city buses called TCAT that run through the campus and connect different parts of the city to different parts of campus. The public transport is free for the first year using the Cornell card and after that, we need to pay an annual fee of 200 dollars.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are very few Indian restaurants around (just three). We have more fast food joints with few vegetarian options. We prefer cooking at home. There are some Indian grocery stores nearby so it is easier to get groceries and make the food at home if you are a vegetarian.

Amazing university for anyone who wants to do computer science or engineering in general.
Tips: The curriculum is very rigorous and the assignments are time consuming. The roads on campus are very steep as it is situated on top of a hill. There is surely a cultural shift as there are not a lot of Indian students here. Overall I am satisfied with the university and my course.
Likes (Student Life): I have classes and then spend the rest of my day doing problem sets. The campus is really beautiful. There are several events on campus like cultural, music, career, sports etc. Several companies visit the campus on a regular basis. There are various sports that are played on campus like football, lacrosse etc.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are 2 Indian restaurants in Collegetown. Additionally there is an Indian store in Collegetown as well. I prefer a mix of both cooking and eating out. For cooking at home you can order from Walmart+, and you can get groceries and various other hour items delivered to your doorstep.

Cornell has a great engineering program and all the top companies come to recruit students.
Tips: I lived abroad before moving to this college so I had a bit of an easier transition. Cornell is a great university with good career options in post-graduation. I was quite satisfied with the degree. There is a big Indian population at Cornell. The professors are dedicated to helping the students achieve their career goals.
Likes (Permanent Immigration): The campus is beautiful and there are lots of activities to do in Ithaca. I enjoyed hiking around Ithaca, slope day and going to the restaurants in the area. There is an Indian Students Club as well. There are lots of planes to go for exercise as well and different sports such as squash, tennis, soccer etc. I would highly recommend Cornell.
Dislikes (Quality of faculty): The faculty is very accessible and the classes have more projects than other universities. This leads to a more hands-on experience. Cornell is very diverse with teachers from countries all over the world. It is a world-class Ivy League institution.
