Course offered on Beyonc at Rutgers University
In a move which can prove to be good news for Beyoncé fans, Rutgers University (New Jersey) has announced a course after Beyoncé called "Politicizing Beyoncé", which uses the pop star's music and career to "explore American race, gender, and sexual politics.”

A doctoral student and lecturer in Rutgers' Department of Women’s and Gender Studies, Kevin Allred, teaches a course called "Feminist Perspectives: Politicizing Beyoncé." It has been made clear the course will not be about What Beyoncé wore to the Grammy's or the deep analysis of her album chart record – the course will be more than that.

Beyoncé's music and career will be used as lenses to explore American race, gender, and sexual politics. According to Rutgers Today, Beyoncé’s music videos and lyrics are combined-compared with readings from the Black Feminist movement authors Alice Walker and abolitionist Sojourner Truth. The university believes it is important to shift students away from simply being consumers of media toward thinking more critically about what they're engaging on a regular basis.

Georgetown University also has a class called "The Sociology of Hip-Hop: The Urban Theodicy of Jay-Z," focusing on Beyoncé's rapper husband, Jay-Z.
