It is ranked amidst the top engineering universities in Germany. Being very research-centric, the university collaborates with Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research, German Aerospace Center, National Metrology Institute of Germany, and several Fraunhofer Institutes.
The Braunschweig University of Technology concentrates majorly on research. Its researches are carried out mostly in 4 areas- Metrology, Infections and Therapeutics, Future City, and Mobility. At Metrology, LENA (the Laboratory for Emerging Nanometrology and Analytics) has been investigating along with the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt. At Infections and Therapeutics, there is the Braunschweig Integrated Center of Systems Biology (BRICS) that combines biology with information technology, engineering, and natural sciences. Strategies against harmful microorganisms are developed with the help of Leibniz Institute DSMZ and the Helmholtz Center for Infection Research. Scientists from the university are developing smart concepts to come up with efficient Future Cities. They are also working towards a mobility system that will be multimodal. Researches are concentrated on aerospace technology, the automotive sector, and rail technology. Apart from this, the university has other research centres. They are the Battery Lab Factory (BLB), Braunschweig Integrated Center of Systems Biology (BRICS), Laboratory for Emerging Nanometrology and Analytics (LENA), Automotive Research Center Niedersachsen (NFF), Aeronautics Research Center Niedersachsen (NFL), and Center of Pharmaceutical Engineering (PVZ).
