Kiel University is an open research university that was established in 1665. It is known to be the first university in Germany to process the Nazi system created by Adolf Hitler. Also, the university is the 2nd largest university in the country. It is a member of the German Universities Excellence Initiative since 2006. The university is named after Christian Albert who was a bishop of Lubeck.
In addition, the university is known as CAU. It is associated with the Kiel Institute for World Economy. It comprises of some of the well-known centers that are internationally recognized. The university is known to be among the top universities in Germany. Martin Gropius, a renowned architect has planned and designed many buildings of the university. The logo of the university is in purple and white colors and it says, 'Peace is the greatest good'.
Presently, the campus of the university is under construction and is supposed to be completed by 2026. Also, a research building will be built for the department of engineering. Lecture theatres, digital classrooms, and seminar rooms will be constructed for the students. Moreover, the university will also provide accommodation facilities for its students. The hostel will include dining areas, internet access, and televisions in the middle of the halls. The university will make sure that the campus is nearby to cafes, restaurants, medical stores, and many other shops that provide basic necessities required by the students. Kiel city is known to be the city of alluring beaches. Students spend a great time here. It is a lively city and is famous for its nightlife, art, and culture.
The university offers an undergraduate degree program and a postgraduate degree program. The academic structure of the university includes a variety of courses to choose from. Students have a wide scope to choose as per their interest. Each department is guided under an experienced faculty member. They also take the students for industrial visits so that they gain ample knowledge about the subject. Some of the well-known faculties are the Faculty of Law, Faculty of Theology, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Mathematics, Faculty of Agricultural Science, Faculty of Medicine, and the Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
Kiel University has a notable list of alumni that includes Alice Bota (Famous journalist), Viktoria Schmidt (German art historian), Peer Steinbruck (Former finance minister of Germany), Sibylle Kessel (Present judge of Federal Constitutional Court of Germany), Erich Walter Sternberg (Renowned composer), Johanna Hellman (Famous surgeon), and Wolfgang Kubicki (Former member of Bundestag).
