History
It began as the University College in 1881, officially opening its doors in 1882 with around 45 students, 6 chair positions, and 2 lectureships. Ashton Street is where the university set up its first building. In 1884, it joined the Victoria University along with the colleges of Leeds and Manchester. Construction of the iconic Victoria Building, made of red bricks, began in 1889 and eventually opened in 1892 by Lord Spencer.
It was granted university status in 1903 and was divided into 5 faculties, namely, Arts, Science, Medicine, Law, and Engineering. In 1994, it began as the founding member of the Russell Group. In 2006, it announced its partnership with Xi'an Jiantong University, one of the top 10 universities in China.

Undergraduate Requirements
