Established in 1780, the University of Munster is an open university and is known to be the 5th largest university in Germany. Earlier it was known as the Royal Theological and Philosophical Academy. The School of Business and Administration that is located within the premises, was the first department to offer a bachelor's as well as a master's degree.
The campus of the university provides accommodation facilities for the students. It features dining areas and a housing facility for the families of the students who want to pay a visit to the university. In addition, there are guesthouses for international researchers. The campus is known to be well-maintained and organized. Greenery is all around the campus. The library located at the campus is known to hold up to 6.2 million books, research papers, and journals. Moreover, the campus initiates various activities, events, and competitions that help in the personality development of the students
The total strength of the university is around 44,842 students. Over the years, it has witnessed an increase in the number of enrolments. The university offers more than 120 subjects and over 280-degree programs including an undergraduate degree program as well as a postgraduate degree program. Moreover, besides the graduate courses, it initiates programs and courses like sports courses, foreign language courses, and music courses. In addition, the university comprises three notable centers, the Centre for Nanotechnology, European Research Centre for Information Systems, and the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Biomedicine. The university is also visited by professional workers for guest lectures.
Initially, the university had only 4 faculties but today it has 15 faculties. Also, the university is a member of a group of fifteen research centres. University has 7,258 staff members including academic staff and professors. It also spends 637.1 million euros in 2019. It has partnership with more than 550 universities and academic institutions all over the world.
