History

The creation of land-grant colleges in the U.S. territories was granted permission after the Morrill Act was signed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1862. This led to the establishment of Kansas State University in 1863, primarily known as the Bluemont Central College in Manhattan, and later became known as Kansas State Agricultural College, the first school created under the Morrill Act.
