Kansas State University (KSU), also known as Kansas State or K-State, is a public research university. It was opened as the state's land-grant college in 1863 and was the first public institution of higher learning in the province of Kansas. Its main campus is situated in Manhattan, Kansas. And, branch campuses are located in Salina and Olathe. The Kansas State University Polytechnic Campus in Salina is home to the College of Technology and Aviation. The Olathe Innovation Campus focuses on graduate work in research bioenergy, animal health, plant science, and food safety and security.

Kansas State University has nine colleges and the Graduate School, together offering bachelor's degrees in more than 100 fields, and 75 master's and 45 doctoral degree programs. Also offered are nearly 70 graduate and undergraduate certificates. They are dedicated to subjects like Agriculture, Architecture, Planning, and Design, Arts and Sciences, Business Administration, Education, Engineering, Human Ecology, Technology and Aviation, and Veterinary Medicine.
The college has had a long-standing interest in agriculture, especially native Great Plains plant, and animal life. The Kansas State University Gardens is an on-campus horticulture display garden that fills in as an educational resource and learning research center for K-State students and the general public. The university keeps up numerous facilities, research collaborations, and academic programs for agrodefense and biodefense. Importantly, the National Agricultural Biosecurity Center (NABC) joins biosecurity researcher programs with federal, state, and local agencies to give a response to emerging agricultural threats.
The university is home to several museums, including the Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art, KSU Historic Costume and Textiles Museum, K-State Insect Zoo, and Chang, Chapman, and Kemper galleries, which highlight faculty and student artwork. The university additionally offers a yearly pattern of performance at McCain Auditorium, including shows, plays, and dance.
K-State offers a wide range of scholarships for students. The Presidential Scholarship, the biggest and most selective grant made by Kansas State University, recognizes students who have been genuinely remarkable, both academically and as student leaders, during their high school career. Two Presidential Scholarships are granted every year. The Vanier Family Business Administration Best of Kansas Scholarship is the biggest and most selective grant made by Kansas State University's College of Business. The Vanier family recognizes students with this grant. The Edgerley and Franklin families support this grant to advance future commitment with the difficulties confronting communities and families.
Some notable alumni are Geraldine L. Richmond, the National Medal of Science laureate (2013), and Priestley Medalist (2018), who received a B.S. in chemistry in 1975, Sam Brownback, former U.S. Senator from Kansas and former Governor of Kansas, Kelly Dubbert, first vice president and chief operating officer, Kansas City Federal Reserve Bank, Marlin Fitzwater, the only press secretary to serve two U.S. presidents, Ronald Reagan, and George Bush, and many more.
