History of Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology
Earlier known as Nelson Technical School, NMIT was established in 1904. Initially, it offered education in courses like Plumbing, Commerce, Craft, Secretarial, Cookery, and Engineering. In the year 1930, this institute merged with Nelson College, providing several new vocational and part-time courses to the students. In 1971, Nelson Polytechnic became an independent technical institute. Finally, in the year 2000, Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology acquired its now known name.
