In this role, he will be working as the senior officer and will oversee the University’s academic advising, student-centered Open Curriculum, undergraduate research opportunities, study abroad, undergraduate programs, and career exploration.

Provost Francis J. For nearly 20 years, he has embodied Brown’s mission and values through his teaching, research and effective leadership, driven by vision, energy and empathy.”

“I value our undergraduates and the Open Curriculum and the way it nurtures collaborative scholarship and research. In my experience, bringing together students, faculty and staff from diverse disciplines and who have diverse views and life experiences is vital to learning. I’m eager to create circumstances that allow all students, faculty and staff to thrive and to carry forward Rashid Zia’s work to protect the strengths of the College," he added.

Brown To Confer Honorary Degrees On Seven Distinguished Leaders

The names of these candidates include Allyson Felix — Olympic gold medalist, Jon Batiste — Award-winning musician, Eileen Hayes — Social services leader, William Kentridge — Artist, Suleika Jaouad — Author and artist, Timothy Snyder — Historian, and Kevin Young — Award-winning poet.

"While the Board of Fellows awards the degrees, many of the recipients were recommended by the Advisory Committee on Honorary Degrees, a faculty and student committee chaired this year by Professor of English Richard Rambuss. The committee offered recommendations for leaders who have demonstrated excellence in a variety of fields, including based on nominations received from Brown faculty, staff and students," says the Brown University statement.
