La Trobe University US Announces New 220-Bed Student Accommodation Complex

Study Abroad: Student accommodation is being expanded to offer necessary infrastructure to students while providing them with high-quality education.
La Trobe University unveiled its plan to set up a state-of-the-art, 220-bed student accommodation in Bendigo’s city precinct. It is a $50 million student accommodation project and will be completed by the end of 2028.
La Trobe Vice-Chancellor Professor Theo Farrell said, "This investment reflected the University’s commitment to providing high-quality education and the necessary infrastructure to support its growing student population. Our vision is to drive growth and innovation in regional communities through transformative education, impactful research and vibrant campuses. Meeting the housing needs of our students is a top priority. This development will strengthen Bendigo as a social, cultural, and economic hub, giving students - many of whom are the next generation of regional and rural workers – access to modern living spaces that complement their studies."

The central accommodation will be designed as per the student's requirements including communal spaces, study zones, and wellness areas to promote a balanced and vibrant campus life.
Bendigo Head of Campus Marg O’Rourke commented, "Our ongoing investments are not only creating a welcoming environment for students, but are also strengthening our teaching and academic capabilities. By investing in Bendigo’s urban core, this project further cements La Trobe as a cornerstone of the city’s future, fostering opportunities for collaboration, innovation, and growth. Through the Emporium Creative Hub, La Trobe Art Institute, the new dentistry building and our Flora Hill campus, we are proud of the economic and tourism contributions our facilities bring to the wider region as a University City.”
Australian Awards For University Teaching Recognises La Trobe Team
This team focuses on equity and participation and is named the Tertiary Preparation Program (TPP) team. Associate Professor Emmaline Bexley is leading this team. It accepts permanent residents or citizens with a minimum of a year 10 education and is the only open-access program in Victoria.
La Trobe’s Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Jessica Vanderlelie said, “This citation is a wonderful acknowledgement of the Tertiary Preparation Program team’s hard work, as well as their commitment to providing our students a world-class learning experience. As the University’s primary pathway for adults from non-school-leaver backgrounds, the TPP program is central to the University’s equity mission. These programs help to ensure that every student has equitable access to quality education, regardless of their background or location. It’s so important that the sector has the opportunity to recognise the outstanding impact educators have on the experiences and outcomes of our students.”
