Parents Of Indian Student Sudiksha Konanki Want Her Declared Dead; Details Here
Study in US: Sudiksha Konanki, a 20-year-old Indian student, studying at the University of Pittsburgh has disappeared in the Dominican Republic. Now, her parents requested the authorities to declare her dead.
Indian student Sudiksha Konanki studying at the University of Pittsburgh has been missing for two weeks. She vanished from the resort town of Punta Cana. Now her parents have requested the authorities to declare her dead officially.
Subbarayudu and Sreedevi Konanki, her parents have written a letter to the Dominican police that after an extensive search for her, the local authorities believe that she has drowned.
“Initiating this process will allow our family to begin the grieving process and address matters related to her absence. While no declaration can truly ease our grief, we trust that this step will bring some closure and enable us to honour her memory," stated the letter, as reported by AP News.
Michael Chapman, sheriff of Loudoun County in Virginia says, “The disappearance of Sudiksha Konanki is tragic, and we cannot imagine the grief her family has been feeling. Sudiksha’s family has expressed their belief that she drowned. While a final decision to make such a declaration rests with authorities in the Dominican Republic, we will support the Konanki family in every way possible.”
Sudiksha Konanki Missing Case: The Background
On March 3, she along with her five female friends went to the Caribbean nation for spring break. According to the local police she was missing from the beach by her hotel on March 6, 2025.
In this case, Joshua Riibe, a senior at St. Cloud University in Minnesota has been detained by the local police. He has not been named as a suspect, however, he was the last person to see the missing student. Riibe has been released and directed to cooperate with authorities.
“All parties say that he has cooperated in everything that has been asked of him,” Judge Edwin Rijo said.
“I really want to be able to go home and talk to my family, give them hugs. I understand that I’m here to help. I’ve done that. It’s been 10 days," said Riibe.
Riibe said, that on the beach that day he vomited when he met Konanki and when he looked up she was not there, later he heard about her disappearance. Parents also do not suspect any foul play.
