Study Abroad: Imperial Plans To Open New Global Hub In India In May 2025

Imperial College London is all set to open its global hub in Bengaluru, India, in May 2025. The establishment of the hub aims to boost the education, scientific and innovation partnership between the UK and India.

Professor Sanjeev Gupta and Dr Elena Dieckmann will spearhead the hub initiative.

Professor Hugh Brady, President of Imperial College London, said, “Imperial Global India will be a launchpad for powerful new collaborations in research, innovation and education between the UK and India. The hub will open communication channels with researchers, policymakers, entrepreneurs and industry to apply cutting-edge science, technology and engineering solutions to shared global challenges in areas such as telecommunications, critical minerals, semiconductors, AI, quantum, biotechnology and advanced materials. Our ambition is to strengthen the bridge between the UK and India to drive economic growth and prosperity, create a more sustainable and resilient world and enhance the quality of life for billions of people.”

Dr Elena Dieckmann, the Academic Co-Director for Imperial Global India, commented, “The vision for Imperial Global India is incredibly exciting, particularly the potential to co-create and learn from the entrepreneurs in India's fast-paced and rapidly expanding innovation community. I see great synergy with Imperial's ability to take early discovery science and transform it into real-world technologies and applications.”

Professor Sanjeev Gupta, the Academic Co-Director for Imperial Global India, said, “India is buzzing with scientific creativity and technological innovation. Our aim is to build on our longstanding collaborations to forge deep and sustainable connections with academic and industry partners. We will apply our combined strengths, especially in emerging technologies, to tackle global challenges, such as how we will live in a changing global climate and how to meet our future energy needs."

Imperial Boosts International Ties With New Quantum Project

Imperial College London has strengthened its ties with the US through a new quantum project titled Quantum ICoNYCh. The project brought together scientists from Imperial, Chicago, and New York to boost collaborations between them for this new project.

The UK Government’s Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) has funded the project which started with a virtual town hall meeting in November 2024.

To expand the partnership, the project organized two workshops, the first one in early March 2025. During this workshop, the delegation from Imperial’s Quantum Engineering Science and Technology Centre (QuEST) centre visited Chicago to explore partnerships with scientists at the Chicago Quantum Exchange. The second workshop was held from March 24 to March 25 which saw participation from the researchers of New York, London and Chicago.

Professor Peter Haynes, who leads the Centre for Quantum Engineering, Science, and Technology (QuEST) at Imperial, said, "The group from Imperial College London touring and talking to researchers in the laboratory in Chicago"This workshop was one of the most rewarding I have participated in, both because of the researchers' enthusiasm on both sides and the number of promising topics that emerged where international collaboration would add significant value."

Professor Peter Haynes added, “The ICoNYCh project has exceeded expectations in terms of its productivity in seeding trans-Atlantic collaborations in promising areas of mutual interest that we are now actively pursuing. QuEST thanks everyone involved in the project, and we look forward to future collaborations on the exciting topics identified."
