Study In US: ASU President Michael Crow Named To TIME100 Climate List

TIME100 Climate list 2024 has named the Arizona State University President Michael Crow, among the leaders and innovators driving real climate action. He is the first university president to be named to this list.

While commenting on this, the ASU president said, "TIME100 Climate honor is a welcome recognition of our university’s unique approach and impact. We’re not focused on ‘the sky is falling’ or scare tactics — fear only inspires shortsighted, ill-conceived actions. We’re instead focused on finding solutions and results to some of society’s biggest challenges."

The other fellow honorees include Claudia Sheinbaum, president of Mexico; World Bank President Ajay Banga; Bill Gates, founder of Breakthrough Energy and TerraPower; Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex; Gila River Indian Community Gov. Stephen Roe Lewis; and Jennifer Granholm, secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy.

ASU Strengthens Economic Vitality Of Arizona: Report

According to a new report, the university is a major economic engine driving the state through spinoffs, taxes paid by alumni, research, and investments.

In this regard, President Michael M. Crow said, “Arizona State University recognizes its responsibility to serve as an economic driver for Arizona. Our state has a vast capacity to grow in success and resilience, fueled by ASU’s ongoing investments as a leader in educational access, workforce development, research, entrepreneurship and innovation, partnerships, technology and more. This empowers our students, faculty, employees and visitors to bolster Arizona’s economy to new levels.”

Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said, “One can see ASU’s impact all around Phoenix and the state — driving innovation and producing a top-notch workforce that can take on the challenges of today and the future. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: When we’re working to secure investment in our economy and locate the top companies in Phoenix, ASU is our secret weapon in closing the deal.”

Sandra Watson, president and CEO of the Arizona Commerce Authority, commented, “We’re fortunate to have a world-class university like ASU partnering in Arizona’s economic success. From programs that provide in-demand training to cutting-edge research and facilities that foster innovation, ASU is central to growing economic opportunity statewide.”
