University Of Manchester: Applications Open For MA Social Anthropology

The University of Manchester is currently accepting applications for an MA in Social Anthropology. Indian students are invited to apply for the 2025 session of the program. The total tuition fee for the Indian students is £30,000 per annum.
“Students will take four 15-credit core course units to a total of 60 credits, including Key Approaches to Social Anthropology, Ethnography Reading Seminar, Contemporary Debates, and Image Text and Fieldwork, and a selection of optional units offered,” reads the official statement of the university.
The MA in Social Anthropology course exposes the students to the vast diversity of human cultural and social experiences. The program aims to convey anthropologically informed comprehension of social dynamics in non-Western and Western societies. The goal is to prompt society to adopt a fresh perspective on the world and question conventional assumptions.
“Through core course units, which constitute approximately one-third of coursework credits, you will gain a thorough foundation in classical and contemporary debates in social anthropology, alongside exposure to the unique research methods and ethical stances inherent to the discipline. Additionally, you can select elective modules from a variety of offerings, led by faculty at the forefront of their respective fields, and complement these with a broad selection of units available across the Faculty of Humanities,” added the university statement.
Entry Requirements For MA Social Anthropology
The following are the eligibility criteria for the program:
- The students must hold a UK bachelor's degree with a First or Upper Second classification in any discipline for entry to the MA programme. They can have an equivalent overseas degree.
- Candidates with a UK bachelor's degree with a Lower-Second classification in any discipline for entry to the Postgraduate Diploma are also eligible. One must have a percentage between 60% to 70% or they can have an international equivalent qualification.

Language requirements: For candidates whose first language is not English, the following are the language requirements:
- The IELTS score of 7 overall with a minimum of 7 in writing and and no component’s score should be lower than 6.5.
- TOEFL IBT 100 score with a minimum of 25 in writing and no less than 22 in other sections. The TOEFL code for Manchester is 0757.
- Pearson Test of English score of 76 overall, with 76 score in writing and no score below 70.
To be evaluated for a pre-sessional English language course, the following are the requirements:
- For the 6-week Pre-Sessional Course: The requirement is IELTS 6.5 overall with a writing score of 6.5 and no more than one sub-skill of 6.0.
- 10-Week Pre-sessional Course: The condition is IELTS 6.0 overall with a minimum of 6.0 or above in each sub-skill.
