Finland offers scholarships each year for domestic and international students. The International Finland Scholarship for 2023 is being funded by the Finnish Ministry of Education and Culture and Finnish Universities. Students who are interested in any program can apply for higher education degrees and these applicants are also eligible to apply for scholarships. You may not have noticed it before, but Finland is ranked among the fastest-growing hubs for international students in Europe. The country offers more than 500 English-taught degree programs offered exclusively in Finland’s 13 universities and 22 universities of applied sciences.

All Finnish universities offer scholarship opportunities for non-EU/EEA students applying to bachelor or master programs. As an example, if you are liable for tuition fees but apply for a UAS program, either your student status must be regulated by Finland or your country is covered on the EU/EEA list.

You usually apply for the Scholarship from the university in Finland at the same time when you apply for admission. As soon as your application is approved, you are automatically qualified for the scholarship.

First Step: Find the degree program that you're interested in

After that, you can research the scholarship opportunities and application requirements available at the university or college offering that program. If you're coming to Finland to do your PhD, there are a number of funding schemes available. The national EDUFI Fellowships, for example, offer research-related funding. The universities also have paid PhD positions or doctoral funding programmes. There are no tuition fees at the PhD level.

  • Finnish Government Scholarship Pool

The Finnish Government Scholarship Pool can only be applied for doctoral studies. This particular grant is not suitable for master's level studies. You will be able to apply for the grant anytime throughout the year.

International students can also study in Finland on Erasmus Mundus Scholarships. Finnish universities participate in a number of different Erasmus Mundus programs for international students, guaranteeing them full scholarships for the duration of their studies.

  • The University of Helsinki Scholarship

To make applying for a degree at Helsinki University as inclusive as possible, the university has announced the launch of a scholarship programme. The eligible student will not have tuition fees to pay and can study here for two years.

  • Finland has one central application system for universities. You just have to select the programs of various universities and apply online.
  • When applying for admission to the institution, it will automatically consider you for scholarships. No separate process is necessary.
  • You do not have to contact professors or anyone else
  • There is no need, for all employees to have a Block account like in Germany.
  • For jobs that are not related to industry specific work, there is no limit on the amount of hours per week. For other types of odd jobs such as a dishwasher or cleaner for an office building, there is a limit of 25 hours per week.
  • Monthly expenses are around 500-600 Euros. There are a lot for European part-timers who earn on average 16 euros per hour and may work between 10 and 20 hours per week

According to unofficial sources, Lappeenranta University of Technology Finland acceptance rate is around 15%. This signifies that the university is very selective while granting admissions. So, students with an exceptional academic record have a higher chance of getting admission. Whereas, for admission to graduate courses, the applicants are required to have a relevant bachelor’s degree.

The cost of living in Finland will vary from individual to individual. There aree various factors that affects cost of living such as lifestyle, location of your university, type of accommodation etc. The costs of living are higher in the capital region (Espoo, Helsinki and Vantaa) than elsewhere in the country. Thus, you should prepare to have about 800 euros per month to cover your living costs in Finland as Aalto student.
