Established in 2004, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKY) is affiliated to the National University of Singapore (NUS). Autonomously administered, this is one of NUS's post-graduate schools. The name of this school is in remembrance of the late Lee Kuan Yew, who was Singapore's former Prime Minister. Being a school of the NUS university, the fact that NUS is ranked 11th globally and 1st in Asia is proof of the quality of education in LKY.
Affiliated to the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs, LKY is amongst a group of educational institutions that deliver education on public policy, administration, and international affairs. LKY is known for its public policy programs. The program was constructed by NUS in association with Harvard Kennedy School in the year 1992. The mission of LKY is to be Asia's foremost educational center imparting public policy courses. For this, the school creates leaders, government servants, and leaders who understand the real essence of public policy and its impact on the world.
The school is located in the vicinity of the Botanical Gardens of Singapore. The Bukit Timah Campus hosts the school, where the NUS Law Faculty is located as well. The campus is set amidst greenery and consists of classrooms, research spaces, and learning centers. Flowering trees dot the landscape - about sixty species of these trees are spread over the landscape. The building itself is colonial-era inspired. LKY offers master programs in public policy, international affairs, public administration, and management, public policy, and European affairs. The tenure of the program ranges from one-year to two-years. Students of public policy and public administration can choose to pursue an MBA or LLM dual degree with NUS Business School or NUS Law School.
Executive Education is a consulting arm of LKY. Executive Education was set up in 2010. The consulting wing intakes students from over 90 countries, annually, imparting short term courses on public policy. LKY has research centers that provide research in the realms of policy studies, international relations, economic development, social policy, and economic competitiveness. The research centers are Asia Competitiveness Institute, Centre of Asia and Globalisation, Institute of Policy Studies, and Institute of Water Policy. The faculty of the school is divided into professors, professors in practice, associate professors, and adjunct professors. Distinguished professors are Ramesh, M, who is UNESCO Chair on Social Policy Design in Asia and Khee Giap TAN, who is the Co-Director of Asia Competitiveness Institute, amongst several others.
