What is D-2 Student Visa for South Korea?

The D-2 visa is for international students who are planning to enrol in a regular degree-seeking or exchange program at a junior college, university, or graduate school in South Korea. Indian students willing to pursue either of the following long-term full-time degrees, i.e. a bachelor’s, master’s or doctorate degree, must apply for a D-2 South Korea Student vIsa.

The duration of a D-2 visa, generally more than 3 months (90 days), varies as on the length of the program. This duration is extendable and can be renewed for as long a the student remains enrolled.

Students are allowed to take part-time work opportunities while on a D-2 Korea student visa after having spent 6 months in the country. However, they are still required to get permission from their universities and the immigration office whenever they engage in a part-time work opportunity.

Below is the guide to apply for a South Korean student visa for Indian students in 2025:

  1. Identify the visa you would need as per the length and type of your course.
  2. Check your eligibility for the D-2 visa for Korea and check its document requirements. You may be required to create a Financial Statement of 20,000 (USD).
  3. Download the S. Korea student visa application form from www.hikorea.go.kr. Take a printout of it, fill it out and take it (along with the required documents) to the South Korea visa application centre in your country. South Korea Student Visa IELTS Requirements

For a South Korea student visa, IELTS scores are required for the English-taught programs. The minimum IELTS score required for the Korean D-2 visa varies by the chosen university and program. However, the general requirement ranges from an overall IELTS score of 6.0 to 7.0, with a minimum of 5.5 in each section (writing, speaking, reading and listening). For postgraduate (PG) level of study, the minimum overall score required is 6.5, and for undergraduate (UG) level of study, the minimum score required is 6.0. Note, some universities may also accept an IELTS score as low as 5.5; refer to the specific official website of the university you’re willing to get admitted to.

South Korea Student Visa Document Requirements for Indian Students

The following documents must be submitted when applying for a South Korean student visa:

  • A Certificate of Admission (CoA) from your host university in South Korea, preferably issued by the president of the university. The letter should also contain details on your financial ability and scholarship status,
  • Certificate of completion/passing certificate from the last attended school, along with the marksheets,
  • Personal reference letter for financial affidavit,
  • Bank statement if the student has paid the fee, and
  • For research scholars - documentation verifying the Research Activity
  • A valid passport
  • Completely filled out the visa application form

  • Academic transcripts, including marksheets, certificates and diplomas
