Important Update for students enrolling to Tokyo Tech in 2025:- The Tokyo Institute of Technology merged with the Tokyo Medical and Dental University on 01 October 2024 to form the “Institute of Science Tokyo (Science Tokyo)". Hence, formerly known as the Tokyo Institute of Technology, the university is now called the Institute of Science Tokyo. As a result, the abbreviated form or the former common short name of the university has changed from "Tokyo Tech" to "Science Tokyo". Candidates must note that the university website is currently in the process of migrating all its data to the new website, i.e. https://www.isct.ac.jp/en. Students enrolled at Tokyo Tech before the date of the merging of the two institutions will remain enrolled on the old institute. However, prospective students who enrol after the merger will be enrolled under the new university’s name, Science Tokyo.

Tokyo Institute of Technology Eligibility Criteria
Below are the admission requirements/expectations of an ideal candidate outlined by Tokyo Tech.
- A minimum of 12 years of school education is required from international students.
- Students belonging to a country that has diplomatic relations with the Japanese government are preferred.
- Basic knowledge of the relevant subject for the chosen field. Basic curiosity for learning the concepts of Science is preferred.
- Basic knowledge of the language to understand the lectures and hold regular conversations with the students and teachers.
- Ability to think and utilise one’s own knowledge.

How to Apply for the Tokyo Institute of Technology?
There are three modes of selection of students at Tokyo Tech Institute, General selection (early schedule), Comprehensive Selection and School Recommendation Selection. The applications for each mode start online. The institute admits a total of 1068 students each year out of all modes of selection. The selection of students happens in two stages - first and second stage. The steps for application are given below.
- Fill out the online application form.
- Appear for online exams, interviews and document verification rounds conducted by the university. The university releases the list of selected students for first-stage selection.
- Post the first stage selection, the institute conducts the academic tests. Post this, the successful students are notified on the official website.
- After clearing all the stages of selection, the students are required to pay the admission fees and complete their admission process.
