University of Bedfordshire History
The university's roots go back to 1908, to the start of the Luton Modern School. In 1937, the Luton Technical Institute was founded. After several name changes, it was finally renamed to the Luton College of Technology. In 1976, it was merged with the Putteridge Bury College of Education and became the Luton College of Higher Education. 1993 saw it attain university status and was renamed to the University of Luton.
In 2006, a merger between Luton University and De Montfort University's Bedford Campus led to the start of the University of Bedfordshire.
