MSc in Advanced Computer Science - Batch of 2025
4.1
A rewarding academic journey in Birmingham.
Tips: If you're looking at coming here, my biggest piece of advice is to do your homework on the course and slide into the DMs of current students or alumni on LinkedIn. Getting their raw feedback on how the modules are actually taught, what the internship scene looks like, and the real job prospects is a lifesaver. Moving over to the UK was actually a pretty smooth transition for me, even though it took a hot minute to get used to the British academic style, which is way more focused on you studying independently and pushing for critical thinking rather than just memorizing notes.
The campus itself has a massive international crowd, which is amazing for meeting people from totally different backgrounds. I also managed to bag a £2,000 scholarship straight from the uni based on my past grades, which definitely took some of the sting out of the tuition fees. Overall, I’ve been really happy with the whole experience. The facilities here are top-tier, the academic support actually helps when you ask for it, and Birmingham itself is a fantastic city to live in. Whether you're chilling on campus right by Old Joe or staying over in Selly Oak, the whole student vibe here is honestly class—there’s always something random going on.

MSc in Advanced Chemical Engineering with Energy - Batch of 2026
4.7
Life-changing experience with lot of life lessons and a lot of opportunities.
Tips: I want you to know all the necessary information regarding the university and the programs and the events that's happening. Research about the professors background so that when you come here you should be able to build a connection with them. You will get a lot of opportunities through those networks and also you should always be updated with the events that happening in the context and around the campus and in Birmingham so if there is an event it's better to go and attend it, and this way you will have like very good opportunities of landing into your job.
Likes (Post study jobs): In a further energy-related field there is a lot of scope. There are a lot of jobs available in the company. There is a huge demand for energy. I have landed three jobs before even completing my degree, which is a very good thing, so that's why I have rated five.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Due to the increasingly tough situations for immigrants because of the policies and regulations, there is a difficulty for settlement options. Getting a job is good but settling into it needs a high payment, high salaries, which are a little bit difficult for freshers but if you are experienced, then it's not a big deal. There is a demand for experienced individuals.

MSc Business Analytics - Batch of 2024
4.4
A well rounded and rewarding experience at UoB.
Tips: Students should know that the University of Birmingham offers a strong academic environment with excellent facilities, supportive faculty, and plenty of opportunities to grow professionally. Transitioning here was smooth, though there was a cultural shift in terms of academic independence, coursework, and communication style and the pace of life in the UK. I'm very satisfied with the university, the course and the country.
Likes (Public transportation): The University of Birmingham is extremely well connected to the rest of the city. The campus has its own dedicated train station - University Station, with frequent and reliable trains directly to Birmingham New Street and other key areas. In addition, buses run regularly around campus and the surrounding neighborhoods.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): The chances of obtaining PR are very less seeing the political landscape. My experience at the University of Birmingham helped my connection to the country and if the opportunity for permanent settlement were more accessible, I'd be open to pursuing it.

MSci (Hons) in Physics (International Study) - Batch of 2018
3.8
Good facilities and helpful faculty.
Tips: Taking admission at the University of Birmingham was an enriching experience. While I initially experienced a cultural shift, I adjusted over time. I also received a merit-based scholarship with allowance support and am very satisfied with the university, course, and overall UK experience.
Likes (Safety): I felt secure both inside and outside of the college. Besides campus security, there are CCTV cameras, well-lit streets, emergency help, and regular police patrols. My overall experience in the city has been positive, with locals being helpful and friendly.
Dislikes (Indian Food): There are limited choices from my home country. The area has a mix of cafes, fast-food chains, and some mid-range Asian restaurants. While prices are moderate, regular dining out can be expensive, so I prefer cooking at home.

University of Birmingham offers endless opportunities for growth.
Tips: You need to learn to manage your time well. In my course, we hardly had any breaks, and during term time, it was difficult to have a work-life balance. I came across some people who are not mentally prepared for it. I did not get any time for a part-time job during my term times as I had multiple exams, assignments, and a dissertation along with a tight lecture schedule from 9 am to 6 pm. However, it's not the same for all courses. Most of the courses have only Assignments and absolutely no exams at all, and their lecture schedule is also quite flexible. In other universities in Birmingham, such as Aston, the lecture schedule is quite flexible, which gives students ample amount of time to pursue part-time jobs.
Likes (Student Life): For those who are proactive, believe in taking initiative and want to excel in their career, the University of Birmingham offers endless opportunities for growth. They host various job fairs, career seminars, personality development and skill enhancement seminars, intercultural awareness workshops for international students and formal English modules that you can add to your course and all without any additional fees.
Dislikes (Permanent Immigration): Recently UK has updated their post-study work visa policy, amending the duration for PSW from 2 years to 1 Year 6 months. The time limit for getting citizenship has been increased from 5 years previously to 10 years now, which makes the UK a tough call for someone looking for settlement. Moreover, taxes are super high, which makes the UK unfeasible as an option to settle abroad.
