History
Though the University of Guelph was formed in 1964, its roots go back to 1874. In the year 1874, an Agricultural School on a 500-acre farm in Guelph was opened. In 1880, the school was officially renamed the Ontario Agricultural College. OAC was joined on campus by the MacDonald Institute. Then, in 1922, Ontario Veterinary College moved to campus from Toronto. In 1964, 3 colleges amalgamated to form Guelph University. These 3 colleges are Ontario Agricultural College, MacDonald Institute, and Ontario Veterinary College. In the same year, i.e. Wellington College was also created to offer Arts and Sciences degree programs.
