The Quantum industry is forecasted to grow hugely by 2030, and the skilled workforce requirement is also expected to grow immensely. The event of Quantum Day celebration aimed to demystify quantum concepts and address ethical and technical issues.

University of Illinois celebrates World Quantum Day

The University of Illinois joined hands with the Illinois Quantum Information Science and Technology Center (IQUIST) to celebrate World Quantum Day. 

Quantum science has led to the development of revolutionary technologies necessary for GPS which include LED lights, MRI scanners, solar panels, lasers and the atomic clock.

"World Quantum Day is an opportunity for the public to get to know the quantum scientists, who will share knowledge and inspire the next wave of quantum discoveries, from quantum computing to sensing and communication. The possibilities are limitless!" reads the university's official statement.

The event saw a variety of sessions that talked about the changes quantum computing could bring to numerous fields including finance and healthcare. The day was celebrated to simplify the quantum concepts and address the ethical and technical issues.

The speaker was - Chad Orzel, Professor of Physics, at Union College. He talked about the "Quantum Physics of an Ordinary Morning." Following this, there was a quantum scavenger hunt, demonstrations, liquid nitrogen ice cream and a book signing event by Author Chad Orzel.

University of Illinois graduates' average starting salary increases to $75,847

According to data compiled in the annual Illini Success report, recent graduates from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign landed postgraduation opportunities at high rates and with increased starting salaries. The report is about the students who completed their undergraduate degrees in August 2022, December 2022 and May 2023. 

As per this report, 91% of this graduation cohort secured a first destination: 56% of students started a job, 35% enrolled in additional education and 1% took on a volunteer position. Also, the average starting salary increased to $75,847, up from last year’s $74,974.  







Top employers include AbbVie, Amazon, KPMG, Microsoft, PepsiCo Inc., PwC, EY, Google, IBM, John Deere, JPMorgan Chase & Co., Apple, Carle Health, Caterpillar, Deloitte, and others.

“The day we release the results from this survey has become one of our annual highlights. We know that the choice to attend Illinois will provide our students with a world-class educational experience. The Illini Success data demonstrates that the decision to come here is also a great investment in your life and career after you graduate," said Chancellor Robert J. Jones.
