International students taking admission to full-time academic programs need a Certificate of Eligibility (Form I-20) to enter any university in the USA. The Form I-20 is used to apply for a student visa at the US embassy. The Stony Brook University visa document requirements for international students are given below:

International students taking part in MBA programs at SBU must follow the basic eligibility criteria and submit the following documents mentioned below:
- A GPA of 3.0 in prior academic work is required for admission. students with lower than 3 GPA could be considered in exceptional cases for conditional admission to the College of Business. If admitted on conditional basis, students must achieve a 3.0 GPA in the first semester in order to continue the chosen study course.
- As an international student, students must demonstrate their English proficiency with minimum required scores. (IELTS: Overall score of 6.5 (with no sub-scores below 6), TOEFL internet-based: Overall score of 80)
- The admission committee looks for a minimum GMAT score of 550. However, applications are still reviewed for admission if the scores are less than required. The submission of the official copy of the GMAT score is mandatory for final processing of admission application.
Note: Candidates may apply for a GMAT waiver if they think they qualify for an exemption. All GMAT/GRE waivers will be considered on a case-by-case basis. An approved waiver request does not guarantee admission to the chosen course.

Stony Brook welcomes international students having intercultural understanding. The university also offers scholarships to such students. It has a vision to encourage intercultural understanding by selecting amongst first-year international students. The selected students will be offered an annual, renewable scholarship to cover 50% of their tuition fees.

The candidates need to demonstrate leadership ability through any interest and personal initiative undertaken in activities that involve leadership, intercultural experience and also somebody who intends to implement these at Stony Brook University
There is holistic review of applicants by a committee that will take into account the academic background, any participation in activities related to intercultural learning, leadership experiences, future goals, essay/video quality and creativity of their submission.
Note: International students are not eligible for any type of Federal or State aid.
Along with having a bachelor's degree in Data Science with a strong Mathematics and Programming background, students must fulfill the below admission requirements to pursue MS in Data Science:
Students are expected to be fluent in Calculus and at least one programming language.
A minimum overall cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (or equivalent), and at least a 3.0 average in all courses in pertinent or related fields.
Basic Mathematics- Must completed two semesters of college level Calculus, and a course in Linear Algebra. Also, desirable course in either Probability Theory or Probability and Statistics.
The student must have at least undergraduate-level proficiency in the core Computer Science areas.
TOEFL - Marks - 80/120
IELTS - Marks - 6.5/9 (Overall score of 6.5, with no subsection recommended to be below 6)
