Q:   How to get a part-time job while studying in The City College of New York?

A: 

On-campus employment: Students on an F-1 visa can work on campus for up to 20 hours per week during the semester and up to 40 hours per week during winter break and summer vacation as soon as they start their studies. To obtain employment clearance from the Office of International Student & Scholar Services, a student must be enrolled full-time, maintain excellent academic standing, and meet all other requirements. You can get permission by completing the On Campus Employment Form.

Optional Practical Training: Students may also opt for off-campus internships and part-time jobs. Students may work full time (40 hours a week) during the summer and winter breaks. The internship or work must directly correspond to the student's academic major. Course credit may or may not be awarded for internships. A student on CPT will not be eligible for Optional Practical Training (OPT) after graduation if they work full time (40 hours per week) for 12 months or longer. 

A student must be in F-1 status and have attended school full time for at least one academic year prior to applying.
