Established in 1867, the West Virginia University is among the oldest institutions in the history of the United States, which opened its doors thanks to the signing off on the Morrill’s Act by then US President, Abraham Lincoln.

Establishment

The passing of the Morrill’s Act, which granted about 30,000 acres of land to every state that agreed to the development of a higher education institute which offered agricultural & mechanical engineering courses, led to the establishment of WVU.
