About West Virginia University
History
Founded in 1867, the West Virginia University (WVU) is a public institution based in Morgantown, West Virginia, USA.
The institute dates its history back a few years before its inception, when President Abraham Lincoln signed the Morrill Act, paving the way for land grants of 30,000 acres to each US state that agreed with the government’s plan to establish a higher educational institute that teaches mechanic arts (engineering) & agriculture.
West Virginia was found as a state shortly after that, & agreed to develop an institution, which led to the formation of the Agricultural College of West Virginia, & got renamed to its present name: West Virginia University in 1868.
Accreditation
The institute & a majority of its courses are accredited by prominent bodies. UWV is currently in the midst of an accreditation partnership with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), & was last accredited in the year 2014. Its first accreditation came in the year 1926.
