The Birkbeck University of London was founded in 1823 and is an open research university and was established by George Birkbeck. According to the Shiksha Grade Rankings, the Birkbeck University of London has received an overall B grade ranking along with a high ranking in other subjects as well.

Birkbeck University of London History
Birkbeck was first founded as the London Mechanics Institute in 1823 and the institute had moved to the Southampton Buildings in 1825. In 1858, the university began to offer undergraduate degrees to its students. In 1866, the university's name was changed to Birkbeck Literary and Scientific Institution. Later on, it was shortened to Birkbeck College and then it was given the status of the university and it became the Birkbeck University of London.
In 1904, the Student Union was developed and a council was elected to manage the organization. The student union of Birkbeck is the first to be a Founding Member of the National Union of Students. By the year 1920, Birkbeck became a part of University of London and it received its Royal Charter in the year 1926.
