Bournemouth University History
Bournemouth University's history can be seen in the early 20th century. In the early 1970s, the University started the foundation of Bournemouth College of Technology and it was constructed on the largest farm in Talbot Village. In 1976, the university's name changed to Dorset Institute of Higher Education. In 1990, the university met all the parameters of the Polytechnics and Colleges Funding Council and as a result, became the Bournemouth Polytechnic. This Bournemouth Polytechnic name lasted for over two years only. Later under the Higher Education Act 1992, and finally became the Bournemouth University. The Bournemouth University inauguration ceremony was held on Nov 27, 1992.
