BPP University History
BPP University was founded by Alan Brierley, Richard Price and Charles Prior in 1976 as a training college for accountants, before expanding into legal training, not long after. During the mid-2000s, the institute, in collaboration with a number of prominent UK law firms, reworked the Legal Practice Course (LPC) that was used to train employees and expanded quickly across popular UK cities, including Manchester and Leeds.
In 2007 BPP University became the first publicly owned national university to obtain degree awarding powers, thus creating history. The same year also saw the opening of the BPP Law School, which offered LLM degrees. Earlier, the institution was known as the BPP University College of Professional Studies. However it was granted the title of a university in 2013 and then granted its now-known name.
In 2009 the company BPP was acquired by the Apollo Group in a deal worth over USD 600 million. The Apollo Education Group officially took over BPP University in 2017.
