History

- The City Law School was first established in 1852 which was the first origin of City University.
- Northampton Polytechnic Institute was founded in 1894 and is an institute of technology located in Clerkenwell, London.
- The original academic departments at the institute are Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Artistic Crafts, Domestic Economy and Women's Trades
- A Technical Optics Department was founded between 1903-04 and the first students were selected for University of London BSc degrees in 1909.
- The College of Designated Technology as an institute was designated in 1957 to the university.
- City University of London formed a strategic alliance with the Queen Mary University of London in April 2001.
- Later in 2004, the School of Social Sciences and the Department of Language and Communication Sciences was established.
- In 2023, a merger was formed between City University of London and and St George's University of London.
