History
The University of South Wales was established in 2013 however, the roots of the university can be traced back to 1841 with the foundation of the Newport Mechanics Institute which was established with the idea to provide technical education to students in the changing industrial world. In 1910, Newport Technical Institute was established which came to be known as the School of Art among the local population. In 1914, Caerleon College was established with the idea of training teachers. The Glamorgan Uni was established in 1992 and in 1996, the Uni of Wales was established in Newport. The current University of South Wales was established in 2013 after the merger of the two universities.
