History
The university began in 1900, thanks to a donation by Andrew Carnegie, who wished to start an institution for the working-class people of Pittsburgh to upskill themselves and improve their overall quality of living. This led to the start of the Carnegie Technical Schools and the Margaret Morrison Carnegie College. In 1912, the schools were renamed to Carnegie Tech and also attained the right to award bachelor's degrees.
Post World War II, three new schools were established. The Graduate School of Industrial Administration, the School of Urban and Public Affairs, and the School of Computer Science, which also houses the first-ever IBM Computer.
A merger with the Mellon Institute in 1967 led to the creation of the university as we know it today.
