NJIT History
It began as the Newark Technical School to train the labourers in the city. Edward Weston, a former rival of Thomas Edison's, along with a few industrialists, helped set up NJIT USA, which today offers more than 120 degrees across different levels of study. Emphasis was given to Engineering and Architecture before the institute eventually launched courses in other fields. It played a crucial role in the United States's efforts during the two world wars, contributing to military training and R and D of new technology. In 1930, it was renamed to Newark College of Engineering, before taking up its present-day name in 1973.
